Reporting to the Director of Walk, the Development Specialist is instrumental in helping the chapter achieve recruitment and revenue goals for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This position works closely with staff, volunteers, and external walkers, team captains and donors. The Development Specialist is responsible for developing tools and templates for team and walk recruitment and fundraising. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Database Management 

  • In collaboration with the Walk Leadership Team, develop reports in the database system for staff and volunteer use; strategize for new reports that can inform our fundraising and cultivation plans
  • Responsible for enhanced database training for new employees and general operational on boarding with support of Walk Leadership Team
  • Responsible for back end database support for all event gifts processed in-house, and training back-up staff on internal processes
  • Provide useful reports at the request of each Walk Manager including but not limited to registration reports, team retention reports, committee interest reports and volunteer reports

Project Management 

  • Build relationships, coordinate and manage volunteers on projects for development team
  • Responsible for all event logistics 
  • Reserve and help set up meeting venues for committee meetings; ensure all agendas and meeting items are printed and organized for committee meetings.
  • Responsible for overall day to day operations of the Chapter’s Walk donation processing in office and matching gifts and sponsorship payments in partnership with Donor services team

Sponsorship 

  • Develop and monitor sponsorship tracking system to manage pledges and pledge payments; serve as primary relationship manager with Walk managers in regard to sponsorship invoicing and follow up 
  • Take an active role to collaborate with Regional Walk Manager to assist with coordination of regional sponsorship asks, lead generation, relationship management of key corporate accounts, collateral follow-up and tracking

Customer Service 

  • Help with new team registrations and questions regarding registration
  • Attend all Dayton Walk Committee meetings to assist with agenda and follow up
  • Maintain master trackers, sponsorship and budget trackers for Walk program
  • Coordinate monthly Walk staff calls in conjunction with Walk Leadership Team. Compile Walk manager meeting notes; communicate action steps to the field, and assist with information and training follow-up
Educational Background: 
Associates Degree or 2 years experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least two to four years’ experience in direct marketing, peer-to-peer fundraising or similar roles
  • Volunteer development and management, public relations, donor cultivation and relations, corporate sponsor cultivation and relations
  • Strategic thinker, be able to see the big picture, anticipate needs of the development staff and take initiative.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel/Office suite
  • Expert knowledge with Google Suite
  • Experience creating and managing CRM marketing and fundraising campaigns on platforms such as Convio, Blackbaud, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Team Approach or DonorPerfect
  • Expert organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills 
  • Proven success prioritizing and managing competing projects, data sets, and varying details 
  • Ability to take initiative to complete tasks
  • Proven ability to maintain data security and confidentiality 
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Ability to work with vendors such as graphic artists, printers, merchandise businesses, caterers, etc. to deliver special events collateral materials
  • Must possess basic accounting skills and principles
  • Ability to travel occasionally throughout the Chapter Area
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally 
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusiveness
