The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a VP, Corporate and Scientific Meetings for the Office of Science Operations in our National Center office located in Dallas, Texas .
This Vice President position is responsible for the strategic planning, execution and evaluation of the overall business operations and logistics for AHA's $20M+ annual revenue generating Scientific Sessions and International Stroke Conference. The ideal candidate will be on the leading edge of medical meeting trends both domestically and internationally and a strong self starter with extensive experience with both people and change management.
The scope of the AHA's Scientifc Session and International Stroke
Conference includes: Live events: Sessions 20K+ attendees, International Stoke Conference-5K+ attendees.
This position is also responsible for providing support to other AHA departments in their planning and execution of over 400+ corporate meetings per year, board of director meetings/functions and corporate philantropic events.
- Creates and executes strategies which will maintain current and create new revenue streams in order to support current and new robust programming developed by AHA's programming departments. This includes but is not limited to: revenue generation through optimal registration, exhibitor and sponsorship recruitment, retention and expansion; achieving and sustaining grant awards; creation, in conjuction with Lifelong Learning Staff, of new learning products and programming.
- Maintains and consistently strengthens processes related to expense budget management. Ability to accurately forecast revenue and expense is essential. This includes but is not limited to robust and highly ethical negotiation of all request for proposals, contracts and agreements related to venues, housing, exhibiting, sponsorship, travel, on-line and mobile vendors, etc.; timely, effective and efficient planning and logistical support for on-line and live events; etc.
- Develops and maintains systematic automated processes to allow revenue and expenses from Scientific Session and International Stroke Conference to be managed in conjunction with other scientific meetings and Lifelong Learning initiatives.
- Provides robust support to other AHA national center and affiliate departments requiring logistic and venue support for their meetings and event.
- Minimum of ten (10) years’ prior experience in the medical or healthcare meeting planning industry.
- Prior experience in product development, life cycle revenue, and expense planning.
- Strong business analytics skills.
- Must be an excellent strategic planner and executer with strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Must be able to travel overnight approx. 25% of the time.
