The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a System Engineer at our National Center office located in Dallas, TX .
Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Server & Data Center, this position designs, administers and supports the server, storage, and data center/computer room and cloud environments used by the Association. This position plans, establishes standards, implements, maintains, monitors, controls, and supports the server, storage and data center infrastructure; and is responsible for the capacity management related to the systems and facilities. The function is responsible for configuration management, change control, and reporting; long-range hardware and operating system planning; business continuity planning, implementation and disaster exercises; system security and patch management; anti-virus selection, standards, configuration and support; and information lifecycle management for data storage from its creation until its destruction. Builds collaborative relationships with all technology staff and insures prompt troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Responsible for shared infrastructure capacity planning including but not limited to EMC SAN (Unity), Data Domain, Isilon and VMware technologies. Plans, configures, administers and supports virtual server (Azure, AWS, VMWARE) environments.
- Configures, administers, and supports the server hardware and Windows server operating system for enterprise applications, including terminal server installations. Performs the primary server administration duties for the Association’s financial, human resource, and other assigned Windows Server application systems. Works closely with the application development staff for implementations, enhancements, operations and support of these systems.
- Actively manages and administers programs, processes, and procedures related to anti-virus protection and other activities related to the protection of Windows application servers and messaging systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction.
- Evaluates, recommends, coordinates testing for, and implements cloud (Azure/AWS), Windows Server, storage and Vmware systems patches that should be deployed to applications servers
- Provides planning and support for business continuity and disaster exercises . Provides technical input for insuring that adequate processes and procedures are in place for handling and recovering from system outages and/or disasters
- Participates in day-to-day data center operations, technical guidance and support issue resolutions, including duty pager support throughout the workday, evenings and weekends; in accordance with published Service Level Agreements. In coordination with other Windows Application Server Engineers, insures that at least one team member is available to respond for troubleshooting assigned areas of responsibility at all times during business and non-business hours.
- Participates, and contributes to technology projects. Works with technical and business teams in long range technology planning.
- Develops, maintains, and audits the use of standards, policies, and procedures. Implements and maintains configuration management and change control practices. Develops, publishes, and interprets performance and capacity reports. Identifies technology opportunities and common issues or trends. Ensures adherence to all TCS and department policy, processes and procedures. Other specific duties as directed by the Manager, Server & Data Center. Other duties as assigned or as indicated in the performance objectives
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the related field
- Providing IT support for virtual enviornments to include vmware, Azure, AWS, SAN (EMC Unity), and storage (Isilon/Data Domain)
- Windows Server administration, network management, data center management, patch assessment and implementation, and anti-virus server configuration and support is required.
- Configuring and supporting the use of an industry standard monitoring system application in a distributed active directory environment is preferred.
- Microsoft Azure cloud support (IaaS/PaaS)
- Experience in accessing, analyzing and reporting on systems management
- Experience in structured project management.
