Under the guidance of the Director, Finance Operations, the Senior Accountant, Operations assists in the management of the Association’s general liability and casualty master insurance program and supports the needs of the National Insurance Committee. This position works closely with external insurance consultants, insurance brokers, auditors and actuaries. The Senior Accountant, Operations works with subject matter experts in the development of financial policies and procedures. This position assists in the preparation of the finance department budget, benefit financial statements and ad-hoc financial analysis.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Manages the day to day operations of the Master Insurance General and Casual Liability Program working with the National Volunter Insurance Committee and insurance broker
- Analyzes data and provides variance analysis to form conclusions and/or make recommendations to management
- Writes policies and procedures which includes reviewing technical material and forming practical operating conclusions for implementation
- Leads and/or participates in special projects impacting the infrastructure of the organization, according to establsihed deadlines, working individually and/or with cross-functional teams
- Works with AHA's actuary to ensure timely and accurate reporting of AHA's post-retirement benefit obligations
- Prepares the annual financial statements for the 401(a) and 403(b) retirement plans
- Provides Customer Service
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Skills/Experience:
- Approximately five years accounting experience
- Understands principles and practices of general accounting
- Understands internal control environment
- Exposure in the day to day management of general liability and casualty insurance program and operational risk
- Skilled in PC applications including Windows, Excel, Word, Power Point.
- Skilled in computer accounting applications (ie, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne).
- Ability to learn, think, reason, and solve problems.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff and volunteers, insurance consultants and actuaries.
- Ability to analyze numbers and interpret findings, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate with people both in person and by telephone.
- Ability to work independently.
