The Science and Healthcare Data Architect is an exciting role at the American Heart Association that offers a unique opportunity to lead data strategy across the organization. The role will report to the Chief of Emerging Strategies and Ventures and serve as a critical liaison between Emerging Health and Business strategies, the AHA’s Healthcare & Quality Portfolio and other business segments. This role is critical to American Heart Association’s efforts that will leverage healthcare and science data as a core asset and growth driver, creating a best-in-class organization and capability that will drive quantifiable outcomes, enable identification of new product opportunities and deliver unique data partnerships that fuel creativity. This person should be a highly motivated, experienced data innovator who can cite tangible results from their strategies, leadership actions and should have current experience in large growth organizations where data is a core capability for driving outcomes.
- Provides vision, design and implementation of a sustainable data strategy for all healthcare and science data management to facilitate scientific activities at the AHA and drive businessopportunities. Healthcare and science data assets would include patient data, consumer healthcare data, EHR/EMR, clinical trials, population studies,social/environmental/behavioraldata, genomic data and other types of omics data.
- Defines and drives the enterprise-wide healthcare and science data and analytics vision across strategy, people, process, data and technology to unlock value of data assets across the organization. Facilitate interoperability of the various AHA digital assets.
- Leads healthcare and science enterprise information, data architecture, standards and strategies.
- Deploys the right mix of” build, partner, buy” strategies and creates strategic relationships with third parties for preparing the data for research and offering predictive modelling and other support services.
- Curates and analyzes data; builds architectures and legal frameworks necessary to manage the data with review protocols that determine what type of data can be used (based on how it was collected and consented).
- Manages data as a strategic asset and operationalizes healthcare and science data governance, quality and other controls to sustain the integrity of the data of an organization.
- Communicates a vision for the healthcare and science data for the enterprise as a critical part of American Heart Association’s growth strategy.
- Drives healthcare and science data governance for the enterprise and for aligning practices Association wide with focus on data practices that may include data quality, data management, data governance and/or data architecture.
- Works in close partnership with key revenue-driving organizations and technology teams to develop and own a data roadmap that includes data sourcing, management, deployment and innovation strategy.
- Serves as a trusted partner to key business executives to assess and respond to customer needs and risk management and regulatory compliance issues.
- Stays current on trends and insights to drive future programs for the organization and foster innovation, leveraging big data and analytics technologies.
- Eight (8) to 12 (twelve) years of work related experience
- Prior senior level leadership experience in a company known for data innovation and excellence with responsibility for a comparably-sized analytics business.
- A passion for and experience with big data-driven decision-making processes across business functions.
- Demonstrated ability to work with technical team of product and data engineers, as well as data scientists/PhDs.
- Experience with implementing and leveraging cutting edge analytic tools and capabilities, including B2B, B2C and cross-channel integration tools.
- Experience overseeing and directing the work of data specialists, including data scientists, analysts, data engineers, software engineers and operations staff.
- Solid relationship building skills at the C-suite level within a matrix environment with an ability to quickly develop rapport, win confidence and drive cross-functional alignment.
- Proven track record of successfully driving top and bottom line results individually and as part of a high-performance team.
- An inclusive, hands-on leadership style with proven experience leading, motivating, developing and inspiring a team of analytics professionals.
- Outstanding oral/written communication and presentation skills, especially with respect to clearly communicating complex data-driven topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Knowledge of technology and healthcare, life sciences and health-tech industry trends
- Must possess a proven track record of creating interoperable datasets to facilitate data sharing and driving outcomes.
