Payroll Manager

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Payroll Manager at our office located in Dallas, TX.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all payroll operations including service delivery, operational effectiveness, business process review, continuous improvement activities and staff coaching and development. Responsible for delivery of timely, quality driven service to internal customers and meeting service level agreements. Also, responsible for compliance with federal, state and local payroll regulations; accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing; adherence with audit procedures; meeting monthly/annual close schedules; and reviewing payroll registers and reports.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage daily work activities and assigns work for multi- state payroll; prioritizes department workload; monitors status of work in progress; and audits completed work.
  • Maintain regular KPIs of payroll processes and review current processes to develop best practices. Utilize KPI metrics and results to drive process improvements
  • Create and maintain documentation for all payroll processes and procedures
  • Maintain partnership with HR and other departments as needed in order to create efficiencies in department.
  • Mentor and develop the team’s professional skills as well as fostering personal development goals
  • Guide the team in creating goals that align with the company or departmental objectives for mid-year and annual performance dialogue
  • Participate in and/or lead internal and/or external audits as required
  • Manager annual preparation and delivery of Form W-2 and all annual year-end processes.
  • Partners with finance to complete general ledger reconciliations on timely basis
  • Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters
  • Create and run management reports as needed
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree or CPP Preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive payroll experience and a minimum of 1 years of management experience
  • Multi- State Payroll experience required
  • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of Workday preferred
  • Expert experience with ADP
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issues
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
  • Certified Payroll Professional credentials preferred but, not required
  • Excellent communication skills, with collaborative communication style and customer service focus
  • Advanced proficiency on Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to analyze/interpret data and take appropriate action and follow up
