The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Temporary Internship, within our Office of CEO Communications team located in Dallas, TX.

Join the fast-paced world of the American Heart Association Office of the CEO (OCEO). We’ re looking for a highly motivated PR/Marketing/Communications student who thirsts for hands on experience across all media and communication channels in this highly visible role of CEO positioning. With a passion for the emerging health narrative, this person will support members of the OCEO Communications team in the areas of social media, digital video, thought leadership, Keynotes, online newsletters, news stories, blogs and briefing materials targeted to internal and external audiences. This role will help develop your creative writing, editing, proofreading, research, and analytics skills as well as the ability to juggle multiple projects in an organized fashion. Students interested in this Internship should have a fundamental understanding of communications, social media and digital marketing, as well as writing and communications skills.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Social Media

  • Social Content & Engagement : Develop, coordinate and execute planned content posts, engagement responses and social media plans to support ongoing CEO activities/calendar across LinkedIn, Twitter and AHA Masterbrand Instagram leverage voice of CEO
  • CEO social analytics : Deep dive into Sprinklr and other tools to evaluate Twitter/LinkedIn engagement and identify opportunities to increase engagement
  • CEO social research: Follow closely health tech, health disparities, women’s health conversations on Twitter/LinkedIn and recommend opportunities to interact/engage with key influencers to raise her visibility in these spaces.
  • Social Dashboard: Assist with pulling quarterly metrics

CEO News From the Heart & other stories/scripts:

  • Craft specific news clips
  • Fact-checking
  • Conducting phone interviews as needed
  • Collecting photos for article accompaniment, including searching for appropriate images on Getty.com
  • CEO personal correspondence

CEO Video Strategy

  • ensure the comprehensive list of all videos of Nancy Brown that are available online, on Sharepoint, in corporate archives, etc. for as far back as can be found and migrate video files to a single location for sharing with staff, volunteers, donors, partners, etc. as needed.
  • Work with Director to develop monthly video topics and scripts especially for Instagram
  • Work with technical team to submit videos for captioning

CEO Keynotes, thought leadership & briefing documents

  • Assist in researching trending health topics
  • Gather AHA and other peer-reviewed research to inform remarks
  • Work with AHA librarian and online resources to package information
  • PowerPoint development and support

Gold Heart National Awards

  • Hands on all around support of national awards program to include overall event production support, speaker support, social engagement, print and design support & event logistics

CEO Roundtable

  • Pulling clips for website
  • Reviewing briefing docs and helping gather information, fact- checking
  • General marketplace scanning for news and trending topics
Educational Background: 
Currently enrolled in a Marketing, Business, Communications, Public Relations or related discipline Bachelor's program
Skills/Experience: 
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal)
  • Web and social media background a plus i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational skills
