The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a New Production Artist based out of our National Center office located in Dallas, TX! This individual will be responsible for operating digital equipment to create graphic elements (illustrations, photography, slides, logos, etc.); produce original products; and fulfill internal requests for digitized images or publications. Responsible for coordinating and tracking the approval of account team’s business reply mail products by the U.S. post office; managing, processing and tracking the completion of account reprints; and maintaining mechanical filing system and the electronic scanning equipment.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Produces, manages, tracks and/or coordinates processes, paperwork and/or vendors necessary to complete the design and production of new products and reprints by discussing with Account Manager and clients job specifications, creating page layouts, obtaining approvals and completing paperwork necessary to have a product printed. Routing sample/Xerox dummy to Editorial and/or Science for review at appropriate stages Meets as needed with Account Team to discuss and resolve problems regarding the processing of reprints.
  • Supports and assists the Account Team Manager, Art Director and Designer with their workloads by providing as, and when, needed the same processes listed in number one.
  • Ensures account typeset copy is proofread by Editorial for accuracy and obtains Branding approval on all products.
  • Maintains and coordinates the mechanical filing system by accounting for all mechanicals, photos, illustrations, computer disks, as they are returned and noting on the appropriate specification sheet.
  • Fulfills Affiliate requests by preparing and negotiating with the Manager of Affiliate Services and the Affiliate team, the cost and time required to complete and digitizing graphic elements in appropriate software environment.
  • Coordinates approvals of account business reply mail by maintaining a working relationship with the AHA representative at the post office or direct mail house and a knowledge of how to obtain the fastest approval. Assists in updating the post office manual with the latest information regarding postal regulations and maintaining a working knowledge of those regulations; also, keeps a log (with printed samples) of products that have been approved for reference
Educational Background: 
High School Diploma or equivalent and some college coursework in digital design
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two - Five (2-5) years of experience in print production, graphic design, illustration and photography
  • Knowledge of print production processes
  • Proficient skills in Macintosh electronic publishing system using QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop, Windows MS-Word and/or an AGFA/Compugraphic 9400 Imagesetter
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of graphic design, illustration and photography
  • Skill in written and oral communication
  • Ability to read and conceptualize visually from material read and heard
  • Skill in the production of camera-ready artwork
  • Ability to meet and deal with AHA National Center staff, volunteers and freelance vendors as a team member and to participate in project meetings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, Communications or related area
