The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Manager, Scientific Meetings in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX .

The Manager, Scientific Meetings manages all of the programming aspects of assigned specialty conferences.The end result of these duties is the production of specialty conferences designed to educate and engage our volunteers and attendees and help meet the AHA's goal of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage the development of the invited program for scientific meetings in collaboration with volunteer program committees.
  • Establish trusted communication with volunteers and anticipate needs and expectations. Manage revenue and budget for established portfolio while identifying potential cost savings and revenue gains.
  • Manage project timelines, deadline compliance and effective communication and dissemination of both.
  • Manage the registration process for assigned specialty conferences.
  • Work with internal departments including Marketing, Councils and Professional Education to meet department goals.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in business administration, education/instructional design, non-profit management or a related field of study.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with project management and/or program management, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Prior experience planning and managing budgets.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate, effective decisions related to project management responsibilities.
  • Must possesses strong communication (written and verbal) and consensus-building skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Must be able to travel overnight up to 15% of the time.

  • Previous experience working with volunteers in a not-for-profit environment.
