Manager, Scientific Meetings

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Manager, Scientific Meetings in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX .

The Manager, Scientific Meetings manages all of the programming aspects of the specialty conferences assigned. The end result of these duties is the production of specialty conferences for our volunteers and attendees in order to educate and engage them in discussion, encourage research and studies, and disseminate the results of recent scientific research and cutting-edge technology, all in order to help meet the AHA's goal of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage the development of the educational content for scientific meetings.
  • Establish trusted communcation with volunteers and anticpate needs and expectations.Manage revenue and budget for established portfolio while identifying potential cost savings and revenue gains.
  • Manage project timelines, deadline compliance and effective communication and dissemination of both.
  • Direct invited program and abstract program for accredited scientific programs in collaboration with volunteer program committees.
  • Manage the registration process for assigned specialty conferences.
  • Work with internal departments and affiliates to meet department goals.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in business administration, education/instructional design, non-profit management or bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years’ experience managing projects
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience of project management and/or program management, preferably in a non-profit setting
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience planning and managing budgets.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate, effective decisions related to project management responsibilities.
  • Must possesses strong communication (written and verbal) and consensus-building skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Must be able to travel overnight up to 15% of the time.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Previous experience working with volunteers in a not-for-profit environment preferred
