The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an Interoperability Project Manager position based out of our National Center office!

This individual will be responsible for providing technical guidance and project management for healthcare data interoperability efforts. Responsible for working with Hospitals, Health Systems, and vendors to grow the number of users taking advantage of automated data solutions for submission to AHA’s quality programs. Also, responsible for serving as an expert for interoperability solutions, providing direction to external customers and the AHA field team. Responsible for facilitating electronic healthcare records (EHR) technology advancement and standardization of data sets, data definitions, etc., in collaboration with AHA’s technical vendor.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops and leads project management such as setting project goals, timelines, roles, and accountability framework for hospital and health systems EHR interoperability projects. Establishes project goals, timelines, roles and accountability frameworks to ensure successful project completion. Leads communication between hospital IT teams, hospital clinical teams, and AHA’s technology vendor.
  • Retains relationships with vendors who have created interoperability solutions for AHA registries. Provides release documentation, updates, and support for product questions. Facilitates communication with technical vendor when needed to provide ongoing support to hospitals and health systems who have already completed interoperability projects.Resolves issues occurring from completed projects or ongoing support.
  • Provides first line technical support to hospitals seeking to upload data via the CSV uploader. Trouble shoots file contents and format as well as escalates concerns to technical vendor where appropriate.
  • Creates educational and informational materials for external customers to support the expansion and adoption of registry interoperability solutions. Provides ongoing QI staff support and training as program technology subject matter expert
  • Leads and coordinates staff and customer webinars. Provides insight and guidance on technology updates and enhancements. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key internal stakeholder groups.
  • Serves as the lead subject matter expert for the field and customers about registry interoperability solutions. Researches and remains current on healthcare technology as well as emerging external solutions that may be leveraged by customers. Provides guidance to hospitals on the GWTG data sets, data definitions and prioritization of data elements for interoperability projects.
  • Assist with management (under supervision of the Sr. Manager, Healthcare Quality Informatics) of ongoing relationships with external audiences, as appropriate, including but not limited to technology vendors, healthcare professionals, and volunteers
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in Information Management, Healthcare Administration or related area
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three (3) years of experience working in healthcare, hospital quality improvement, or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in health technology project management
  • Two (2) years of experience in management of large data sets, measure development and applications
  • Ability to effectively work with physician experts and scientific thought leaders
  • Ability to understand, interpret and communicate clinical information. Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular clinical knowledge a must
  • Knowledge of voluntary health organizations and experience in group process with the ability to resolve conflicts and gain consensus through mediation and collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Information Management, Healthcare Administration or related area
  • Advanced Training/Certification in Healthcare Quality or Health Information Management such as CPHQ, CAHIM, CPHIMS or CHIT
