Donor Communications Manager

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Donor Communications Manager based out of the National Center office, located in Dallas, TX . This position can be remote, but must live near a major airport.

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and implementing high-touch and strategic donor communications for top organizational wide donors, with a focus on increasing, renewing and retaining revenue from major, principal, and planned gift donors and grantors, as well as revenue through referral partners. Responsible for ensuring consistent, high-quality interactions, stewardship and engagement with the AHA. Responsible for planning, production management and serving as lead writer/editor for broad reach publications, or for segments within those. Responsible for omni channel donor communication content such as donor stories/content, webinars, podcast and video scripting

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Write, edit, and curate storytelling content and/or serve as managing writer, part of writing/editing/curating teams, typically for broad (rather than individual) distribution to major/planned/principal gift and grant audiences. Develop scripting, talking points, templates for stewardship reporting and other purposes as needed.
  • Serve on the development and implementation team for the Mission Advancement Marketing and Communications plan. Implement, manage and regularly report progress on significant elements of the plan as assigned, ensuring delivery is on strategy, on time, and within budget.
  • Lead project and publication production implementation/ management, meet or be accountable for deadlines, collaborate with partners and deliver a quality product. Maintain detailed electronic records for all donor communication related projects, such as tracking of special engagement collateral, communications pieces created for major gifts and individual giving donors, Giving Society members, and donor reporting schedules, etc. Deliver on special projects as they arise.
  • Contribute to the objectives and goals of the Marketing and Communications team, Grants and Operations Division, and Mission Advancement Department. Provide quality content or template contributions for funding opportunities materials and resources.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, related area or equivalent work experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five (5) years of experience managing communications, project management
  • Three (3) years of experience working with volunteers and donors
  • Ability to engage all major, principal, and planned donor types and to collaborate with partners across the AHA
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, multi-task, and set priorities
  • Strong writer with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
  • Solid computer skills with the capability to master new software applications and technologies
  • Excellent Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint skills required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in a non-profit setting, national level preferred.
  • Five (5) years of communications, marketing or public relations agency experience
  • Five (5) years of knowledge and experience with non-profit or donor communications vehicles
  • Three (3) years of external communications or communication publications experience
