The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Business Intelligence (BI) Solutions Architect in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Designs integration architectures, defines data mappings, develops data models, and consults with the infrastructure team on server and data storage services.
  • Formulates and recommends standards for achieving maximum performance, compliance and efficiency of the Data Warehouse and Master Data Management systems.
  • Ensures accuracy and integrity of service-oriented architecture through analysis, coding, writing clear documentation and problem resolution. Reviews issues and enhancements documented in the incident management and project management system for consideration of business needs.
  • Maintains in-depth current knowledge of standards, guidelines, and industry trends for Data Warehouse Architecture as it relates to reporting and operations. Attends and interacts with user groups and researches new software vendors in the market.
  • Fosters use of self-service analytics, data governance and visual discovery while guiding changes and limited reliance on manual data processes. Builds proof of concept and tangible results by sharing testing data.
  • Participates in the planning for retirement of systems programs, and migration of systems infrastructure by providing current state and future state architectural diagrams.
  • Works closely with Business Intelligence Manager to ensure prioritization of corporate and department objectives within the portfolio management system.
  • Champions data quality, integrity and reliability throughout the department by designing data flow models and promoting development best practices with best of breed automation tools.
  • Provides mentoring to Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) team members with technical expertise, complex systems, and/or programming knowledge. Provides on-the-job training for new or less experienced ETL team members.
  • Provides technical training to external team members to encourage cross-department connections including the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
  • Provides a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas by holding regularly scheduled reviews of code and monitoring software.
  • Develops business cases, impacts evaluation and ROI for department to get buy-in from senior management.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree from a four year college or university or equivalent work experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of Data Mapping and Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) design and development experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience with:
  • Data modeling with an emphasis on ODS and Star schema models.
  • Integration architecture design and implementation.
  • Experience with Data Virtualization tools
  • Comprehensive knowledge in software development lifecycles/methodologies, i.e. agile.
  • Strong presentation and collaboration skills and can communicate all aspects of the job requirements, including the creation of formal documentation
  • Fluent in relational database concepts and flat file processing concepts.
  • Strong problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 20% of the time.

  • Business Intelligence Technology: SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, MicroStrategy.
  • ETL Technology: SSIS, DataStage, Informatica.
  • Time series analysis, clustering, decision trees and neural networks.
  • Database/Data Virtualization Technology: SQL Server, Oracle, Alteryx, Denodo, Hadoop, Cloudera.
  • Experience with Cloud offerings.
