Associate Marketing Communications Manager - Global Operations

The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Marketing Communications – Global Operations based out of our National Centeroffice located in Dallas, TX! This individual will be responsible for developing, planning and executing targeted media and communications strategies for an assigned AHA/ASA program or issue. Responsible for acting as media representative for the assigned program or issue.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Devises, plans and implements communications strategy for assigned focus area (multicultural markets, advocacy, health and wellness, stroke, etc.)
  • Plans may include press events, advertising campaigns, social media, opinion/editorial content or other communications tactics.
  • Acts as point of contact for multiple media outlets; includes researching, targeting and fostering relationships with key press representatives, reporters, or agency contacts to promote assigned messaging
  • Writes press releases, media advisories, letters to the editor, blog posts, social media posts, fact sheets and other content for targeted audience and issues
  • Collaborates with Communications Team to create comprehensive social media strategy including messages, shared media sites, web pages, and related public web media outlets
  • Manages web content and editing for assigned focus area
  • Monitors, reviews and develops reports on media coverage, including analyzing and distributing appropriate media clips, reporter coverage, and public response
  • Identifies, trains and engages national spokespersons for specialized messaging and media opportunities
  • Responds to media and public inquiries and requests for information or commentary
  • Collaborates with AHA/ASA departments as appropriate to assigned focus area to incorporate messaging into programs and initiatives across the organization
  • Prepares and executes press events, public access tours, informational briefings or related media programs as needed by communication plan
  • Identify and manage vendors required to assist with communications plans (translation, public relations, advertising, promotions) to targeted audience
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications or equivalent work experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 years of experience writing press releases, media content, or other communications
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrated success in creating communications or media plans
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Project management experience, including managing multiple projects at once
  • Proven ability to develop newsworthy ideas, write and pitch stories to media outlets
  • Ability to travel 15% local and overnight stay
