The Major Market Regional Vice President of Field Operations is responsible for establishing strategy and setting direction for a multi-state geographical region involving geographically diverse major markets in alignment with the strategic direction of the Foundation, in order to enable the sustained achievement of the mission and fundraising objectives of the March of Dimes; responsible for an integrated revenue portfolio of opportunities from event fundraising to transformational giving. The position also involves cultivating and maintaining relationships with the highest level donors and prospects to drive growth in individual giving at the major gift level. These markets are responsible for approximately $20 million in annual revenue.
A primary focus of the role is collaborating with Executive Leadership Council colleagues and other senior leaders to develop strategies and practices enhancing the ability of the Foundation to achieve its mission, engage volunteers, and helping every baby have the healthiest start so each generation has the brightest tomorrow. To accomplish this, the role is responsible for:
- Implementing and guiding effective mission and fundraising programs;
- Increasing visibility and engagement in the community;
- Leading, coaching and developing a team that includes local market leads and their talented staff in devising growth strategies and plans for executing donor centric revenue and engagement strategies;
- Guiding direct reports in the hiring and development of high performing Market staff;
- Creating and maintaining an effective volunteer structure in all Markets; and
- Coordinating and facilitating proactive and effective communication between the National Office, Regional Business Partners and Field staff.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Executive Leadership: Responsible for the operations of the organization, the delegation of responsibility within the organization and the establishment of formal means of accountability in order to ensure meeting all business objectives in a cost effective manner. Direct and coach market leaders in the assigned geographical region in areas of fundraising, financial management, volunteer and staff development in order to achieve maximum productivity and profitability outcomes.
- Business Plans, Objectives and Strategies: Lead the development, design and execution of strategic development plans to drive profitable and sustainable year-over-year growth in all Markets within the geographical region.
- Budget Decisions: Oversee the development of the market budgets, recommend actions to adjust and control expenditures and take advantage of opportunities to optimize spending in order to ensure the achievement of financial targets.
- Develop Top Volunteer Leadership: Develop and maintain relationships with Volunteer leaders at the highest level in order to ensure support in mission delivery and fundraising within the geography. Lead and guide Market staff in the development of strategies and activities to ensure effective Board and Fundraising Committees in all Markets within the geography.
- Performance Goals – Individual, Team and Unit: Ensure the market level leadership continues to move the business forward and improve performance results. Use objective tools, information, and feedback in order to establish performance goals for individual, team and unit. Supervise direct reports to establish and attain market performance goals. Collaborate with Department Heads in all shared services and Enterprise to develop priorities for execution that best serve the attainment of goals in fundraising with influence to mission impact.
- Staff Leadership: Plan performance expectations, monitor, and appraise direct report’s job results and performance in order to develop, coach and recognize direct reports. Provide ongoing feedback and guidance to direct reports on overall performance and develop plans for performance improvement when needed, including development of their larger team and staff.
- Staff Development: Ensure the availability of resources, expertise and processes needed at the geographical region level in order to perform at increasingly higher levels. Provide information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities in order to develop staff. Focus on the development of leadership skills and business acumen of direct reports in order to enhance the ability of the Foundation to grow and thrive.
- Staff Liaison: Act as a liaison between the National Office and Field Operations in order to ensure alignment with all standards and to optimize opportunities to provide field input and intelligence to all decisions regarding fundraising and mission programs.
- Communicate the Mission of the Foundation: Communicate the mission of the March of Dimes with staff, volunteers and within the community in order to connect current and prospective donors with Mission outcomes.
- Optimize Electronic Tools: Utilize electronic data management tools in order to review and analyze pertinent information and monitor financial and mission related results.

- Scope: This position leads the development of broad organizational goals and objectives for the regional geography. This position holds the highest level of accountability for all activities within his/her functional areas of responsibility that support those organizational goals and objectives. Provides guidance to subordinate or parallel managers to assure goals are met on time and within budget.

Contacts are critical to motivating, negotiating with, developing, and collaborating with others.

- 10+ of directly related work experience in increasingly responsible positions. Preference for individuals who have worked within a regional model working with large and complex markets.
