National Cause Director - Go Red for Women

This job is no longer available

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a MARKETING DIRECTOR who will help lead our Go Red For Women Movement (GRFW). Go Red is one of our key initiatives, raising awareness of cardiovascular and stroke risks women face every day. Many people think cardiovascular disease is just a man’s disease. The truth is, 1 in 3 women die of heart disease and stroke every year – more than all cancers combined. This is where you get to don your special cape and be the superhero you have always wanted to be -- joining a team whose purpose is to make it easier for women and their families to take action and lead healthier lives.

This role will be based out of our National Center in Dallas, Texas, with the potential to work remotely. It will be responsible for driving the business goals of the movement through leading Go Red For Women’s marketing and communications strategy, collaborating with a cross-functional team and managing significant sponsor, volunteer and influencer relationships

Areas of Responsibility:
  • Develop and oversee implementation of some of the most meaningful and powerful marketing and communications strategies. Your success will help AHA|ASA accomplish our goals through Go Red For Women, including a successful blueprint of how you and the team will reach multicultural and diverse audiences through our digital, social and community channels. You will also get to work with our incredible volunteers, sponsors, influencers, strategic alliances and media partners.
  • Manage a fully integrated strategic plan for Go Red For Women as well as tactical action plans, timelines and budgets -- thoughtfully monitoring all aspects of plan execution. While a planner is good, we also need a Director who is a doer. This is someone who sees the strategy from 10,000 feet while also rolling up his or her sleeves to make these plans come to life.
  • Partner with our Corporate Relations team to identify potential national corporate sponsors, craft sales presentations and proposals based on shared goals and work directly with corporate sponsors after contracts are signed to ensure fulfillment of key deliverables and overall successful execution of the sponsorship. You will also support our field mission/health and fundraising goals as well as provide internal communications and leadership updates regarding all facets of the initiative.
  • Finally, the director also represents the AHA on the issue of women and cardiovascular disease at conferences, alliance and sponsor meetings and other internal and external functions and is accountable for achievement of Go Red For Women business goals – health impact, positioning, revenue and engagement.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing or a related degree
Skills/Experience:
  • 10 years of consumer-based, marketing-related experience preferably in a non-profit organization where you have made a proven and significant impact.
  • Five years of effective marketing leadership growing/developing your team to successful results including strategic vision, team building, inspirational and goal-driven leadership and negotiation/consensus-building skills.
  • Proven ability to balance structure with vision in order to motivate stakeholders and develop strategic plans and translate vision to the team responsible for tactical execution.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Significant experience in managing consumer campaigns, project management and organizational skills, with proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, large budgets, vendors and contracts.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; proven ability to influence peers and senior leadership, interacting professionally with all levels of volunteers, sponsors, colleagues and other key stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service mindset, delivering support to both internal and external clients and effective client/sponsor relationship management.
  • Ability to travel at least 30% domestically.
  • Experience working with affiliate or local staff of all functions within nonprofits.
  • Volunteer management experience.
Compensation/Benefits:

Attracting talented, committed employees means offering a competitive benefits package, ongoing professional development and training, and a diverse and inclusive environment in which to work and grow. And we do.
