Director of Marketing - Science Operations

This DIRECTOR OF MARKETING is responsible for directing the creation, production and implementation of all marketing and promotional activities related to programs, products and services offered by AHA to Cardiovascular Clinicians and Researchers for Professional Membership, Lifelong Learning, Scientific Publication or our Research initiatives. This role manages a team of approx. 8-9 Marketing and Data Services professionals.

Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Leads development and improvement of short-term and long-term strategic plans. Identifies and sets marketing vision while establishing goals, metrics, and evaluation procedures for reporting plan achievement.
  • Collaborates with Science Operations business leaders to support product and services market gains.
  • Serves as content and messaging expert for marketing techniques and targeted audience. Identifies best practices and trends for improving market penetration for all AHA’s professional audience.
  • Empowers and leads marketing staff to engage and motivate for effective and efficient implementation of marketing plans and activities. Encourages process improvements and creative innovation in marketing techniques.
  • Facilitates and engages volunteers on multiple levels to leverage skills and leadership to benefit AHA promotional and marketing opportunities.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field of study
MBA or other advanced Marketing degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in marketing with demonstrated success, preferably in the not-for-profit or association sector. Proven track record of building and leading marketing teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of and experience in applying the principles and practices of statistical analysis, program evaluation, automated systems development projects, data analysis and data management.
  • Ability to conduct presentations to a variety of professional audiences. Ability to work effectively with staff and volunteers at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret policies and procedures governing research programs and to apply these policies in various situations. Ability to think logically and solve problems.
  • Experience in strategic planning. Strong creative, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills.
  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 25-30% of the time.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE PREFERRED SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Senior management experience with progressive responsibility to explore and identify new revenue sources as well as accountability for a budget of up to $1 million
  • Familiarity with online education technology/platforms and innovative education practices is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability in budgeting, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing work.
