Accounting & Financial Analyst - Act to End NTD's

Provides finance management support to the USAID-funded, Act to End NTDs | West program intended to support disease-endemic countries to control and/or eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) with proven, cost-effective public health interventions to treat and measure treatment impact against seven NTDs: lymphatic filariasis, trachoma, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, and three intestinal worms known as soil-transmitted helminths.

Under the supervision of Act to End NTDs | West Senegal’s Finance Manager, the Accounting & Financial Analyst shall support financial/accounting operations, including overall financial monitoring and support, to ensure the fiscal well-being of the organization. Provides financial management and guidance, conducts analyses of financial data, provides budget analyses for project funds, and reviews and prepares required reports to funding agencies to ensure compliance with the donor's requirements. Proactively guides and supports respective financial success by providing high level analytical expertise, implementing business strategies and developing strong customer relationships. Provides analysis and business modeling support on strategic initiatives for senior management and field operations. Analyzes performance trends, modeling complex business decisions, tracking performance and presenting results.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Keep records of all accounting and tax records with appropriate supporting documents.
  • In consultation with the Finance Manager, maintain records and update the banking information database.
  • Update and maintain the organization's records, including, but not limited to, audit, tax, legal, contractual federal and regulatory documents.
  • Review project budgets (new and changes) and prepare upload to accounting and reporting systems.
  • Assist in the documentation of the financial and accounting processes to be included in the Financial Manual.
  • Entering data (accounting, project, etc.) into accounting and reporting systems with speed and accuracy.
  • Maintain practical knowledge of QuickBooks, GL Wand and Excel.
  • Manage petty cash and validate the data in the accounting and reporting systems, if necessary.
  • Prepare various accounting schedules and reconciliations, participate in the end-of-month closing process.
  • Help prepare monthly, quarterly and semi-annual reports.
  • Help prepare monthly internal project management reports (budget vs. actual figures, etc.).
  • Prepare year-end schedules and analyzes for external auditors. Assist in project audits and other audit reports.
  • Monitor and prepare weekly open accounts receivable recovery reports.
  • Generate reports from accounting software for management and grant reports.
  • Actively participate in the creation and preparation of reviews and training in the field and at headquarters.
  • Help fill out travel expense reports.

Problem Solving & Impact:

  • Analyzes moderately complex business operations and financial statements.
  • Reviews and determines compliance with laws and regulations; draws conclusions; makes recommendations for approval.
  • Reviews and analyze recommendations from peers.
  • Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results would normally require a moderate expenditure of resources to rectify.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Applies a thorough knowledge of financial management, investment capital, and risk analysis, debt management, and investment analysis, legal and regulatory compliance pertaining to the respective industry.
  • Proficient knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Internal Control Fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software required.
  • Has a thorough knowledge of external regulations as well as internal corporate policies and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, identify/resolve errors and prepare reports.
  • Ability to motivate and work well with others.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years related work experience, including 3 years in management and 3 years working at the corporate or organization level.
  • 3 to 5 years of directly relevant experience highly preferred, especially in accounting and finance with an international NGO.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide strong customer service.
  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Able to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, creativity to changing needs and situations.
  • Proven experience working with employees confidentially and with discretion.
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Experience managing Fixed Amount Awards or similar strongly preferred.
