POSITION: Store Associate
JOB TYPE: Part Time
REPORTS TO: Assistant Store Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Middlesex Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with eligible families. One of the ways in which Middlesex Habitat raises funds is by way of its ReStore. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a retail home improvement store that serves as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. The ReStore accepts donations of new and gently used items from individuals and businesses. The ReStore sells those items to the public at a reduced cost and proceeds go towards building Habitat homes within the community.
The ReStore Associate assists ReStore staff in carrying-out the operational functions of the MHFH ReStore including daily operations and volunteer supervision. This position works closely with the ReStore Manager & Assistant Manager in keeping with the general oversight of the store.
This position plays a key role in forming the critical partnership with the ReStore staff required to maintain efficient and effective operations during the store’s operating hours. The majority of this position’s time will be dedicated to the following functions:

- Assessing, Handling, & Cleaning Donations – preparing them for sale.
- Interacting with volunteers and staff – taking and providing direction.
- Interacting with donors – assessing incoming donations and loading and unloading donations.
- Interacting with customers – providing customer service, assisting with merchandise pick-ups and answering questions.
- Contribute to the retention of customers by serving as a brand ambassador and providing exemplary customer and donor service.
- Works to respond to the critical priority of providing exceptional customer service to ReStore donors, volunteers, and customers.
- Conducts walk-through of the store, to maintain and ensure cleanliness, safety, and appearance standards.
- Personally train new volunteers when needed.
- Works closely with the ReStore Staff to ensure store policies and procedures are followed.
- Oversees display and organization of showroom sales areas jointly with ReStore staff to ensure all items are properly priced and ticketed for sale.
- Maintain orderly flow of items onto the sales floor through efficient processing, organizing, and merchandising.
- Oversee and maintain daily/weekly task assignments and records.
- Serve as a cashier and truck assistant when needed.
- Other duties as assigned. (Many times you will be asked and expected to perform responsibilities outside of your daily duties.)
- Self-motivated, reliable and enthusiastic. Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, and the ability to multi-task.
- Commitment to safe working environment.
- Ability to provide leadership and supervision to volunteers while also having the ability to perform most tasks in the absence of staff or volunteers.
- Must be able to use moving equipment such as a hand-cart with proficiency.
- Must be customer friendly.
- Operate a cash register with proficiency.
- Communicate the mission of Habitat for Humanity with enthusiasm.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Reliable transportation.
- Work is labor intensive.
- Ability to lift in excess of 75-100 pounds repeatedly.
- Work requires considerable standing, bending, kneeling and reaching in awkward and tiring positions.
- Bulk of time will be spent standing, pushing, pulling, carrying, walking and otherwise assisting customers, donors, and volunteers.
- Prior experience in a retail setting a plus.
- Retail experience with construction or building materials/hardware preferred.
- High school Diploma or GED preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Ensure store sales are maximized and consistent growth is achieved.
- Contributes to a high-trust, collaborative culture.
- Keeps ReStore staff informed of all ReStore related activity.
- Demonstrate understanding and appreciation of the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
- Fulfillment of responsibilities described above.
