Development Director, Go Red For Women

We have an excellent opportunity for a Development Director for our Go Red For Women campaign in the Columbus, OH market. American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign and events encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and action to save more lives. The Go Red for Women Director is responsible for the successful leadership and accomplishment of development and mission goals by building a strong volunteer foundation of top philanthropists, corporate CEOs, civic and community leaders as volunteer leaders and building a base of corporate sponsors and donors. Primary focus is solicitation of large dollar and multi-year sponsorships, c-suite chair and volunteer committee recruitment, auction production and overall event coordination with a team collaborative fundraising goal in excess of $1.5M.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Identifies, recruits and engages high-level event chairs and executive leadership volunteer committee members who commit to corporate sponsorships, give personally and recruit others
  • Develops and implements strategies to elevate and strengthen sponsor and donor relationships in support of achieving fundraising and mission goals in accordance with AHA best practices
  • Builds an overall individual giving program in support of the Go Red For Women movement
  • Builds and leverages committees, partners and other volunteers to develop and execute a local market year-round plans for engaging the community in the Go Red For Women Movement
  • Conducts revenue generation focused calls on a frequent and consistent basis, including cold calls and face-to-face meetings with potential and current/new sponsors and donors with a focus on top employers in the market
  • Develops corporate relationships to enhance community-wide special events and programs.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates Go Red For Women fundraising events, including live/silent auctions, according to best practices and event timelines
  • Collaborates with cross-functional team members to optimize sponsor, volunteer and donor relationships in support of achievement of market revenue and health mission goals
  • Prepares and presents to wide range of audiences, including c-suite individuals and large groups
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least two years of experience with a non-profit organization in a fundraising position and/or two years proven success in corporate sales and new business development
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiation and motivation to successfully secure and grow business/sponsors/donors
  • Track record of success in meeting and significantly growing business-to-business fundraising/sales goals
  • Knowledge and skills in sales/fundraising principles, practices and techniques
  • Strong leadership competencies with the ability to recruit, train, counsel, manage and provide customer service to volunteers, including executive level
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team atmosphere, but also to work independently
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and strategic problem-solving skills
  • Ability to thrive in a high-demand, best practice, goal and mission-driven environment
  • Strong organizational agility with ability to prioritize and manage several responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to understand and analyze sales/fundraising data and reports
  • Applied knowledge and intermediate skills in windows applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated skills in professional written and oral communication, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, training and public speaking
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% within the market with some overnight travel outside the market for meetings and trainings
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion
  • Ability to lift at least 20 lbs from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to pass background checks
