Specialist, Foster Grandparent Program

The FGP Project Specialist is responsible for providing direction and oversight to the Foster Grandparent Program including program development, fiscal management, stipend management, promotional activities, staff supervision, volunteer recruitment and management and coordination with agency and community resources

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, screen, place and supervise Foster Grandparents to ensure successful and productive volunteer assignments. Train, supervise and evaluate program staff to ensure effective program operations. Manage and process checks for stipend, travel and meal budget for volunteers to meet grant requirements.  Provide 40 hours of Pre-Service Orientation and a minimum of 4 hours of in-service training for all volunteers. Maintain accurate supervisory records to comply with all requirements.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of the grant renewal application. Prepare quarterly and annual reports as required by funding sources to evaluate progress, identify problems and maintain regular communication with funders. Negotiate, review and update Memoranda of Understanding with volunteer stations to establish guidelines for volunteer placements.
  • Prepare annual program budget, monitor revenues and expenditures to maintain fiscal control. Provide primary staff support and technical assistance to the Foster Grandparent Community Advisory Group to carry out promotional fundraising, evaluation and volunteer support activities.                
  • Represent program in community through presentations, affiliations, participation in meetings and conferences to increase viability of the program; expand base of knowledge, secure funding and recruit volunteers.
  • Develop/maintain cooperative working relationships with community organizations to gain support and promote linkages with other agencies in order to plan and implement promotional activities to market program services and increase community awareness.                                                     
  • Develop new volunteer stations with input from Field Office and State Lead in response to community and sponsorship needs.                                    
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion on significant matters related to the Foster Grandparent program.
Educational Background: 
High School Diploma
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three to five years of relevant experience working with or in schools
  • Professional level of specialized knowledge to manage complex tasks, programs or projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to interpret grant requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, social work, management, child development, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 three years working with federal grant program.
  • Attention to detail, organization and high level planning skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Experience with CNCS programs, working with elderly and/or children, and literacy programs
