The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior National Service Officer (SNSO) educates and advocates for wounded service members as they pursue claims for injuries sustained during activity duty military service. The SNSO guides and manages the preparation and processing of all VA claims and subsequent appeals.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop relationships with Department of Defense (DoD), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and Veterans Health Administration (VHA) leadership to ensure timely and professional care and treatment of warriors.
- Prepare briefs for pending appeals located at the local VA Regional Office level and for cases at the Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA).
- Identify and review administrative errors and other documents for consideration for submission to Central Office.
- Periodically participate with conducting hearings at the local Veterans Affairs (VA) Regional Office level up to the BVA.
- Assist in collaborative efforts to support WWP programs.
- Maintain Veterans Service Organization accreditation standards set forth by the VA Office of General Counsel (OGC) and complete assigned training courses.
- Provide quality mentorship to junior Benefits teammates.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree. Equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and certification may be considered in lieu of degree.
Skills/Experience:
- Demonstrated working understanding and application of relevant DoD and VA laws and regulations when researching, filing, and closing benefits claims.
- Demonstrated proficiency in all VA electronic systems, including appeals.
- Demonstrated knowledge and working understanding of the laws and regulations pertaining to Veterans benefits, as set forth in Title 38 of the United States Code and the Code of Federal Regulations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with SalesForce.
- Strong and effective research skills.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills. Demonstrated influencing skills.
- Strong critical thinking skills with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve and identify viable solutions.

- Five years of experience as a veteran’s benefits advocate. Equivalent experience as a VA Rating Specialist may be considered in lieu of advocate experience. Juris Doctorate may be considered in lieu of advocate experience.

- Five years of experience working appeals under the jurisdiction of the Board of Veterans Appeals.
