The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Benefits Services team assists Warriors in navigating the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, and State Veterans Benefits programs as they pursue claims for injuries. The Senior National Service Officer will manage all VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) claims obtained in the field and manage and maintain all appealed claims to include the full jurisdiction of claims at the Board of Veterans Affairs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop relationships with DOD, VBA and VHA leadership to ensure timely and professional care and treatment of warriors and to ensure timely resolution of all claim related issues
  • Remain current with all VA and DOD laws, regulations, and benefit
  • Maintain and update all WWP intranet electronic tracking systems and demonstrate a high accuracy outcome
  • Develop community support and to speak on behalf of WWP
  • Assist in all grassroots efforts and support specific campaigns as needed
  • Maintain and prepare briefs for all pending appeals located at Board of Veterans Appeals
  • Review administrative errors or other documents being prepared for submission to Central Office for consideration
  • Conduct pre-hearing and post hearing interviews
  • Conduct hearings at the Board of Veterans Appeals
  • Develop relationships that will foster and engage warriors and caregivers with WWP programs
  • Maintain yearly VA laws and regulations certification
  • Provide mentorship and training to less experienced service officers
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in government affairs, social work, or a related field preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Extensive knowledge and experience involving all DOD programs and VA laws and regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of the Appellant Process
  • Highly proficient in all aspects of Salesforce to include running reports and analyzing data.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, positive, outgoing, personable, and able to relate well with diverse populations and age groups
  • Demonstrated commitment to the organization and able to timely complete required assignments
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work well under pressure
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast paced environment
  • Organized, diligent, and able to troubleshoot, problem-solve and prioritize
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a highly developed attention to detail
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs
  • Successfully demonstrate the ability to provide quality mentorship to junior benefits team members
  • Ability to develop complex training material and provide effective issue specific training to staff and warriors
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Veterans Benefits advocate required
  • Experience working appeals at the Board of Veterans Appeals required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and providing training on complex benefits related topics
  • In lieu of advocate experience, Juris Doctorate will be considered
