The incumbent will lead in developing and implementing external engagement strategies in order to strengthen WVLs position locally and increase its brand recognition. He or She will contribute to the development and implementation of the national advocacy action plan for World Vision Lanka in alignment with the national office strategy. Additionally, he or she will explore ways of creating new opportunities for the external parties to engage with World Vision Lanka.
Lead the development of the External Engagement Strategy for WVL
- Supports and advances the organization in government relations and advocacy agenda at the local, and national levels WVL is represented in critical external and public engagement opportunities.
- Develop collaborative relationships with senior level policy makers and government ministers, while engaging INGO, NGO, UN agencies, local NGOs, churches, educational institutions and other civil society groups;
Lead national office advocacy strategy and annual plan of action.
- Provide required support & training/capacity building of staff & ensure Policy Advocacy support for child wellbeing
- Field operations are able to integrate advocacy strategy in their annual work plan & the Technical Program Advocacy targets are integrated into national plan
- Promote WVL as a leading NGO in creating positive policy change
- Track legislative & other policy initiatives relating to child centered issues of interest to the organization
Lead the External Engagement of World Vision Campaign ‘ It takes the world to End Violence Against Children’ (EVAC).
- Enhance EVAC advocacy initiatives through external representation, partnerships & coalitions
- Improved policy and legal frameworks are in place at the National & Local level for ending violence against children
Strategic Media relations for Advocacy
- Coordinate well organized media /stakeholder tours, story angles & narratives for advocacy issues that warrant exposure
Effectively manage the performance of direct reports & submission of monthly management reports
- Conduct regular performance discussion and annual appraisal for direct reports
- Submission of timely & accurate public engagement monthly reports & monitor budgets/program expenses of Dept.
- 3-5 Years’ experience in relevant field, preferably in a leadership role; journalism, media, communications or development.. Degree in journalism or communications/external relations/marketing;
- Experience in campaign management & roll out with experience in relief or advocacy field, developing policy papers & networking at national level preferred
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills in English and Sinhala /Tamil
- Good research, policy analysis & report writing skills
- Fluency in computer programs (Word, Excel, Power Point);
- Solid knowledge in media relations, understanding of mass media developments in the country;
- Excellent press release, media advisory, spokesperson skills.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Willing & able to travel domestically & internationally up to 40% of the time
