Research Assistant – Climate Adapted Farming Research

The research assistant will work under the supervision of research officer to assist him for plan and conduct the research in Sri Lanka in close coordination with University of Cambridge research partner.

This position needs to contribute for the above research project in line with the project implementation plan, WV organizational and University of Cambridge principles and guidelines.

Key tasks will include contributing for designing and planning of the research study, guiding, mobilization and supervision of fieldwork, (including interviewing households and key stakeholders), data processing and management, collation and analysis of research materials, literature reviewing, research administration, support for producing reports and publication, and other tasks as required.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop Research products/tools and delivered on time with required quality
  • Support for Research Officer to overall supervision for field-level data collection and ensure the quality of data.
  • Facilitate to organizing, designing and carrying out Qualitative and Quantitative fieldwork
  • Contribute for management and administration of project and deliver the expected outputs in a timely manner.
  • Undertake regular field visit to the identified project locations and APs for monitor the progress and ensure the quality of information
Educational Background: 
Bachelor level qualification in a relevant discipline (Agriculture/ Sociology), and/or demonstrated professional experience in a related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least six month of research experience in the fields of rural development, development studies, or agricultural economics
  • Experienced in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies (applied research methods, statistical analyses, evaluations etc.)
  • Experienced of conducting surveys and working with agricultural extension services and rural organization.
  • Sound knowledge on statistical analysis software. MS Office and on mobile data collection methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Sinhala or Tamil.
  • Ability to manage tasks under pressure, is flexible, and with good collaboration skills in cross-cultural context.
  • Some understanding of social context of Sri Lanka
  • Good communication skills and ability to confidently and effectively work co-operatively with colleagues and community
  • Established conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Experience of presenting and writing up research results for publications.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 60% of the time.
