Save the Children is seeking a Health and Nutrition Manager for an anticipated three to five-year USDA-funded program in Sri Lanka.  The McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program (McGovern-Dole) feeds schoolchildren, reduces hunger, enhances food security, and improves literacy (especially for girls) in low-income, food-deficit countries around the world.  By providing school meals, teacher training, and related education and nutrition support, McGovern-Dole helps boost school enrollment, attendance, and literacy results.  McGovern-Dole also provides support to maternal and child nutrition (MCN).

The Health and Nutrition Manager is a key position, responsible for leading the implementation of program activities to increase the use of improved health, nutrition, and dietary practices. These activities include the use of promoting a diverse diet through a school meal and community health education, school WASH maintenance, school health clubs, and curriculum-based nutrition education. In addition to focusing on school-aged children, s/he will also address the nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating women and children under five years of age.  S/he will coordinate closely with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, and other government entities to strengthen the existing school WASH and nutrition programs.  S/he will also coordinate with the Sri Lankan Government and other school feeding stakeholders in Sri Lanka to ensure alignment of objectives and efforts.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide technical oversight and direction for health and nutrition as an integral part of the team.
  • Develop nutrition-sensitive activities to address identified nutritional deficiencies of the intended beneficiaries.
  • Encourage dietary diversity and teach children about nutrition and healthy eating.
  • Address the nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating women and children under five years of age, as applicable, and coordinate with the school meals component
  • Ensure the project is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and any other relevant ministries.
  • Build on existing nutrition activities in Sri Lanka to maximize impact
Educational Background: 
Master’s Degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least seven years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility for designing, managing and implementing integrated health, nutrition & WASH programming in developing countries involving multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in building community and Ministry of Health capacity to provide quality integrated health and nutrition services
  • Experience with both school feeding programs and MCN
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentations skills in English
  • Familiarity with USDA or USAID or other USG administrative, management and reporting procedures and systems
