Volunteer and Youth Coordinator

This position involves recruiting, training and supervising volunteer mentors and tutors to work with children and youth. It also involves working directly with children and youth, ages 9-18, creating and delivering educational programming and intensive college preparation. In addition, the position involves extensive interaction with the parents of the students, working with them to create and deliver parent education and empowerment programming. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, screen, and conduct intake interviews with volunteers and families
  • Match volunteer mentors and tutors with appropriate Connect to College students
  • Supervise mentor and tutor matches, and provide counsel as needed
  • Maintain records of monthly contacts with volunteers
  • Conduct community outreach activities and public speaking engagements with the goal of recruiting volunteers and gaining community support
  • Serve as the adult mentor for the Connect to College middle school girls empowerment group in coordination with Scripps College for Women
  • Support college access activities including college planning, and weekend and overnight college tours
  • Provide support to the Parent Leadership Council for its monthly workshops and annual conference
  • Create and deliver health and wellness programming for Connect to College girls
  • Help staff Uncommon Good promotional events
  • Assist the Executive Director in carrying out special projects 
Educational Background: 
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
Skills/Experience: 

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Bilingual in written and conversational English and Spanish
  • Event coordination
  • Public speaking
  • Facility with social media, especially Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

Requirements

  • A four year college degree
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Spanish
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with mentoring programs, youth development programs, or related experience
  • Flexible hours as work is typically required two Saturdays per month and some evenings
Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation is $52,000 annually. Health benefits are provided unless the employee already receives them from another source.
