Lead strategy development that not only builds on the current produce business model, but looks at innovative models to get more produce into the hands of the people we collectively serve. Manage the Feeding America produce department to create a vision to take advantage of network scale, procurement power, and position as the leading hunger relief organization in the country.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provide strategic direction for the produce work for the Feeding America network. Sets the direction for the future, testing new models of delivery, while improving the current business model objectives of cost, variety and freshness.
- Lead and manage: a team based, continuous improvement oriented work environment that is focused on providing legendary customer service; change both internally and across our 200+ member food banks via extensive information sharing and advisory services; multiple initiatives and programs to drive cost out of network produce procurement activities.
- Define, set, track, and report on department plans and measurable departmental goals aligned with board outcomes and supporting strategies.
- Systematically deepen Feeding America produce donor relationships by raising awareness about our mission, creating win-win opportunities between producers and our members, and managing expectations.
- Invest in and develop the professional capabilities of Produce Department staff to create a best in class procurement organization.
- Build strategic relationships within produce industries and align members to leverage collective strengths and abilities for securing additional produce at lowest possible costs and reinforcing Feeding America’s status as a preferred recipient of available produce.
Educational Background:
BA/BS Degree. MBA, graduate degree, graduate courses
Skills/Experience:
- Cover letter with resume is required.
- 15 years’ experience including 10 years in management with a working knowledge of produce industry, vendor relationship development, supply chain management, 3rd party freight coordination, and transaction management.
- Minimum two years of produce industry experience strongly preferred.
- Sales, marketing, or business development experience/knowledge strongly preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communicator; confident and capable public speaker; negotiation and facilitation skills are critical.
- Long-term strategic and operational planning skills.
- Willingness to travel domestically; role will entail as much as 50% travel.
- Passion for organizational mission of ending hunger in America.
