To provide research and data analytics support to the organization and to members through contribution to the development and execution of primary and secondary research and data analysis, facilitating the development of organization and networkwide use of technology enabled data collection to build a national data infrastructure for analysis and strategic advancement of Feeding America.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Takes direction from Research Managers and Directors to implement project tasks, processes and analysis for key research studies and initiatives, including the Service Insights Initiative, progressing key project components and coordinating with team members, appropriate personnel, and/or consultants in a timely and clear fashion.
- Collaborates with research managers and directors to define project goals and deliverables. When appropriate, delineates tasks to team members, appropriate personnel, and/or consultants to support key project activities and deliverables.
- Works in partnership with food banks, technology vendors, and other internal Feeding America departments, including IT, to develop the technology infrastructure needed to obtain, store, and manage client level data provided by members and their partner agencies.
- Acts as point person for performing rigorous statistical data analysis in-house to support organizational learning and performance management.
- Leads analytic activities with a range of data to provide data collection, cleaning, quality control, and in-depth analytic functions to use the data, including translating results into actionable insights that can then be shared in multiple digestible formats with internal stakeholders and members.
- Develops data analysis protocols and conducts in-depth data analytic analyses with quantitative and/or qualitative methods, as appropriate, and provides analyses of the data findings, from both original data sources, including the Service Insights datasets, and secondary sources including, but not limited to, Census Bureau data, American Community Survey estimates, food price data, local food tax data, etc.
- Uses gathered data to create visualizations (e.g., using Tableau), executive summaries, and other deliverables that interpret and disseminate outcomes and key findings from research studies and initiatives.
- Provides support for food bank members by responding to their requests for information, troubleshooting data management issues, providing guidance on electronic data collection, creating turnkey tools for members, assisting with translating data into actionable insights, and other support tasks as requested
- Provides research and data analysis-related technical assistance to state associations, food bank members and agencies, assisting them in their understanding of data related to food insecurity, low-income populations, etc.
- Develop analytical presentations to share with key stakeholders, including members, research partners, and donors.
- Coordinates meetings and updates for project team members.
- Collaborates with Research Manager and Director to provide technical assistance to other departments, including (but not limited to) Communications, Planning & Analysis, Strategy, Member Services, and Philanthropy
- Provides support in the development and execution of learning conferences and manages research responsibilities around all conference-related initiatives.
- Presents at learning conferences, policy forums and similar events on Feeding America research.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Upholds the nationally recognized expertise of Feeding America on policy & research within the fields of food assistance and poverty.
Educational Background:
BA/BS or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Master’s Degree preferred with 5+ years’ experience in social policy or social science research and statistical analysis.
- 2+ years’ experience working with databases and manipulation of data.
- Experience supporting multi-site data systems development and data management functions.
- Advanced data analytics and data analysis systems management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically as part of a team and within broad coalitions.
- Project management experience required.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and SPSS, STATA, R, and/or SAS required.
- Proficiency in Tableau preferred.
- 10-20% travel required.
