The Network Engineer role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links.

Will also assist in support of technology systems functions by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing server and client systems.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Collaborate with management and technology staff at national office and food banks to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records both at our National Office and a subset of our Member locations.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
  • Architect new network environments for new site build outs and new equipment deployments.
  • Design and deploy Feeding America’s LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, and other hardware.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Configure networking systems to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Implement and manage monitoring systems to assure optimal network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, and other network appliances.
  • Provides after-hours support for FANO and food bank network community as necessary.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Provides assistance during IT and System Security audits.
  • Ensure all backup and fail over circuits are fully operational and provide network redundancy.
  • Provides 2nd / 3rd level support to Service Desk as required.
  • Collaborates with Systems Engineer(s) to maintain reliable operation of administrative systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Supports and assists engineering team during maintenance weekends.
  • Creates and maintains system documentation for business systems and general workflow diagrams.
  • Participates in infrastructure technology assessments, upgrades, and solutions.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS or relevant experience
Skills/Experience:

Required Technical Competencies and Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience in Network systems administration within a Cisco and Windows server / client centric environment.
  • CCNA, CCNE preferred, knowledge and experience in Cisco ASA, Switches, Wireless controllers, access points in a multiple location environment a must.
  • Experience with configuring and managing monitoring tools such as Solarwinds.
  • Experience with site-to-site and client-to-site VPN tunnels.
  • Experience with Cisco Firepower Management Center and SFR modules.
  • Experience in virtual server systems and coordination with cloud service providers a plus.
