To develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet annual and long-range goals focused on principal individual donors and prospects. The position will manage Feeding America’s Food Security Council, an advisory body of high-level influencers, as well as a portfolio of top individual donors and prospects. The position will develop high-level engagement strategies, conduct in-person cultivation and solicitation meetings, and support Executive Team interactions with top donors, prospects, connectors and members of the Food Security Council.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and CEO, the Food Security Council, an advisory body of top influencers and connectors. Develops candidate list for the Council, engagement strategy for cultivating prospects, engagement plan for cultivating and stewarding existing members of the Council, and background briefings for Executive Team interactions with Council members.
  • Staffs high-level donor and prospect meetings conducted by Executive Team members.
  • Manages a portfolio of 20-30 top individual prospects and donors at the high six- to eight-figure level; responsible for achieving revenue target for portfolio, agreed upon annually with CDO.  Target range is $15-25M annually by FY21 with additional growth beyond this 3 year timeframe.
  • Conducts research and engagement strategies to identify, qualify and cultivate top-level donors new to Feeding America.
  • Tracks relationship management process for donors and prospects in portfolio; engages in highest-level stewardship best practices.
  • Works with Major Gifts Team on the development of integrated fundraising strategies for principal gifts prospects.
  • Develops plans and strategies to work with Feeding America network member food banks in collaborative fundraising efforts with principal individual donors and prospects.
  • Outlines, develops and authors high-level fundraising materials, such as executive briefings, request letters, proposals and personalized gift request materials for key solicitation and stewardship meetings.
  • Works with Directors of Development in the implementation of comprehensive individual principal gift stewardship and recognition plans for principal giving donors.
  • Collaborates with Philanthropy Operations to ensure proper revenue tracking, projections and reporting as well as monitor the database to ensure information is entered and maintained accurately.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Commitment to philanthropic values and service.
  • 7+ years of experience in philanthropy, fundraising or direct donor management.
  • Strong knowledge principal giving best practices.
  • Experience in developing donor strategies, briefing and request materials, solicitation approaches and donor stewardship for major donors and prospects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, volunteers, donors, and prospective donors.
  • Understanding of the complexities of fundraising for a large, federated nonprofit.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of fundraising software and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • A commitment to the mission of Feeding America and understanding of the cause of hunger-relief.
