The Grants Specialist provides highly specialized public awards administration and finance/accounting-related services to North America Region Central Grants Team.
The Grants Specialist is the primary point of contact, and is directly responsible for, the administration of all aspects of publicly funded awards, including review of proposals and preparation of budgets, set-up in central finance systems, preparation and submission of all invoices and financial reports to agencies and maintenance of master award files. They work closely with award managers to ensure the terms and conditions of agreements are met and properly documented and communicate directly with the agency contracting officers to clarify or negotiate financial and administrative requirements. The Grants Specialist is also directly responsible for the administrative aspects of grants out to grantee organizations, including assistance with due diligence activities, preparation and revision of agreements, review of invoices and financial report and maintenance of grant files. They provide assistance to staff in their specialty area and respond to moderately complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Administers public awards.
- Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.
- Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
- Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
- Experience, coursework or other training with applicable U.S. Federal government Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral organization and international government regulations, and standard contract clauses.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Non-profit accounting experience.
- May require technical expertise on complex accounting/financial issues.
