The Grants Manager, Strategic Initiatives Fund (SIF) is responsible for managing and organizing all grants administered through SIF to the YMCA movement. This role will serve as the main point of contact for the hundreds of grants awarded to local YMCAs across the country through SIF. The Grants Manager will provide technical assistance and support to grantees in their utilization of the Y’s online grants management database. He/she will ensure grantees’ timely fulfillment of all contractual obligations, and will interact daily with YMCAs and cross-departmental Y-USA staff. The selected candidate will also coordinate details of ongoing SIF activities and support the SIF department’s overall grant monitoring.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage all aspects of grants awarded to local YMCAs through SIF, including survey creation and implementation, and data tracking, collection and management.
  • Monitor grant projects and ensure grantees’ timely fulfillment of all contractual obligations, including match requirements and reporting requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to grantees in their utilization of the Y’s online grants management database.
  • Serve as the main point of contact and provide customer service to all local YMCAs who receive a SIF grant.
  • Support the SIF team with the annual Request for Application (RFA) process.
  • Develop and manage SIF’s grants calendar to ensure all contractual obligations are met or appropriately addressed.
  • Interact with staff throughout Y-USA, remote locations and local YMCAs in order to implement national donor relations initiatives; interact with senior executives from local YMCAs and Y-USA.
  • Gather feedback and success stories related to SIF funded initiatives; support the writing of narrative and budget reports on use of funding for interim and annual donor reports; ensure overall reporting (including photos, media samples, etc.) is compliant with donor format/standards.
  • Manage SIF grant making information on Y-USA’s knowledge-sharing and social-networking platform. Oversee distribution of information regarding and related to assigned accounts to YMCAs; assist in writing and/or editing articles, announcements and other related products for YMCA publications and Web sites.
  • Assist grants management staff in coordinating local YMCA communications and incoming questions related to SIF funded programs and related reporting requirements.
  • Be willing to undertake support responsibilities on existing and future YMCA corporate/foundation alliances, as needed. Manage special department projects, as requested.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in account management, business development, fundraising, project management, stewardship, donor relations, or grant writing.
  • Demonstrated record of success in project management; superb organizational skills and diligent attention to detail, with the ability to plan, track and complete long-range project deadlines and goals.
  • Ability to prioritize, track and implement multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to deal well with a large volume of work while maintaining high quality and efficiency/timeliness.
  • Demonstrated record of success in writing; outstanding communication skills, both written and oral - including the ability to write/edit technical reports on donor funded initiatives and letters on behalf of Y-USA leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; demonstrated ability to work well with internal and external partners at all levels; ability to work both independent and within a team environment (departmental and cross-departmental).
  • Familiarity with the grant making process and online grant making applications strongly desired.
  • Ability to deal with rapidly shifting priorities; quickly adapts to change, reacting professionally and effectively to incoming initiatives from funders and Y-USA leadership; exhibits comfort in working under deadlines.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, with the ability to work independently and anticipate the needs of Y-USA, the Y movement, and funding partners.
  • Knowledge of donor database applications is required; Raiser's Edge software experience preferred.
  • Must possess the ability to read and understand budget reports.
