The Alzheimer's Association Home Office seeks a Director of Fund Development responsible for enhancing and cultivating the Alzheimer’s Association’s relationships with donor-advised funds, family funds and supporting organizations across the country. This position will be responsible for identifying and establishing relationships with high net worth individuals, financial institutions and community foundations, creating presentations and managing all activities related to influencing the revenue received from donor-advised funds.

The Director of Fund Development will report to the Senior Director of Relationship Development, and work with other staff to implement and coordinate association-wide engagement with donor advised and family funds.

This position can be based remotely in any US major city.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Design and implement a successful donor advised fund development strategy.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit a network of professional advisors-including financial advisors, philanthropic advisors, wealth advisors and other professionals.
  • Proactive relationship building and networking to build the portfolio and strengthen the pipeline of relationships.
  • Manage a small portfolio of high net worth philanthropist on their personal giving to the Association
  • Create and deliver compelling presentations for financial institutions, community foundations and individual prospective donors.
  • Prepare written materials such as visit strategies/briefings, correspondence, solicitation/proposal and pledge documents, where appropriate.
  • With Association leadership, explore and potentially implement a donor-advised fund program and encourage high net worth individuals to establish their own funds at the Association.
  • In collaboration with major gift and planned giving donor advisors, work with professional advisors who have clients’ wanting to make charitable gifts of complex assets.
  • Provide strategic direction to Association-established family funds 
  • Stay abreast of all trends in donor-advised funds, fundraising and planned giving; maintain intelligence on competitors, industry trends and ongoing advancements in the marketplace.
  • Define and drive key performance indicators so that program results are achieved. 
  • Maintain strong and accurate records of activities, as directed by team protocol using the national database. Monitor, evaluate, and report on progress and outcomes against agreed upon goals. 
  • Work collaboratively, strategically, and effectively with departmental colleagues and peers across the Association to build revenue from Donor Advised Funds and grow the strategic gift pipeline.
  • Actively provide input into donor communications and stewardship initiatives.
  • Adhere to professionalism and fundraising best practices as demonstrated by moves management industry standards and donor-centered methodology.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required. CFRE or advanced degree a plus
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7-10 years of progressive, related, professional nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Deep knowledge of the philanthropic marketplace and wealth management community
  • Experience in working with high net worth individuals as well as grant making institutions, and demonstrated success in personal cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and closing of major gifts at the six, and seven figure levels
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write and edit with accuracy and speed
  • Strong problem solving and negotiating skills
  • Highly creative/innovative with abilities to persuade and motivate others
  • Strong analytical skills to drive fund development growth for the Association
  • Ability to add strategic value to various donor situations
  • Able to overcome barriers and challenges with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Superior interpersonal skills including ability to listen, observe and interact well with diverse individuals and groups. Tactful, diplomatic, and appropriately assertive
  • Results-oriented with ability to focus on and meet deadlines and goals
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Team leader and team player with ability to work collaboratively with Association colleagues and leadership
  • High integrity and professionalism, respecting the confidential nature of donor information and the Alzheimer's Association's business practices
  • Keen understanding of working in a federated, non-profit structure, coupled with desire to work collaboratively across functions
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed, including overnight travel up to 50%
