Director, Equitable Access

In alignment with Feeding America’s 2025 goal, the Director, Equitable Access manages a team focused on programs, policies and partnerships that will improve access to nutritious food for people experiencing food insecurity. The Director will work across the organization, with the Feeding America network of food banks, and engage external partners to ensure Feeding America’s work is informed by current evidence and research. The Director is a member of the Programs Leadership Team and reports to the Vice President, Equitable Access.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead the execution of strategies for meeting the needs of targeted populations and geographies.
  • Support organizational efforts to identify best practices, strengthen the evidence base and replicate promising and proven approaches to increase access to nutritious food and food security across the Feeding America network.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to partner effectively with organizations who can support the advancement of Feeding America’s strategic objectives.
  • Manage a team of professional staff and program budgets to support outcomes related to improved access to nutritious food and food security.
  • Strengthen team culture by attracting, developing, coaching, and retaining high-performance team members.
  • In partnership with Development, advocate for financial and in-kind resources that support the national office and network members in better achieving Equitable Access goals.
  • Collaborate with the Research team on the development and implementation of research and evaluation plans, as well as tracking of outcomes to support continuous learning, inform strategic adjustments, and maximize insights gained from member grant activities.
  • Partner with the Government Relations team to identify barriers and opportunities that can be addressed through public policy to advance the strategy goals.
  • Oversee team’s engagement with Marketing and Communications to increase awareness of the issue of food insecurity.
  • Provide counsel and input to the Vice President, Equitable Access and organizational leaders on successes and barriers faced in achieving outcomes related to improved access to nutritious food and food security. 
  • Oversee the engagement of network members in co-creating solutions to improve access to nutritious food and food security.
  • Represent Feeding America at internal and external conferences, briefings, meetings and events; serve as team representative on task forces, committees, and other projects as assigned by the VP, Equitable Access.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS or relevant experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8+ years’ experience in nonprofit program development with 5+ years in management required

  • Translates Strategy to Operational Goals – Ability to design and develop implementation plans for strategies and coordinate with various internal departments, the network, external partners, etc. to bring the strategies to life.
  • Manages for Results – Strong project and people management skills necessary to design, manage and implement all aspects of the targeted strategies
  • Communicates Effectively – Ability to communicate across a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including presenting at conferences, meetings and events through both written materials and presentations
  • Collaborates Internally and Externally – Ability to collaborate across a variety of internal departments including development, member grants, finance, etc. as well as partner and engage with the network and a wide range of external partnerships and stakeholders.

Required Technical Competencies and Experience

  • Track record of effectively developing and operationalizing strategies that have taken a program or organization to the next stage of growth
  • Experience working with diversity of community groups and local and national program partners.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing toward results.
  • Experience in participatory program development and implementation strategies and group facilitation methods within the non-profit sector.
  • Highly capable problem solver, able to work on complex problems requiring strong analytical and process skills
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically as part of a team and within broad coalitions.
  • 10-20% travel will be required.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
