Director, Disaster Services

Help lead the Feeding America national office and network of food banks in building capabilities in disaster response, recovery and preparedness such that the organization’s domestic leadership in this space continues to expand and strengthen.  Provide leadership in cooperation with Managing Director to enable enhanced funding, food sourcing and partnership expansion to maximize service to communities impacted by or vulnerable to natural disasters.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide technical assistance to Members and State Associations on disaster planning/exercise and developing local relationships/MOUs.
  • Identify, capture and document successful initiatives to be shared with Network via Hungernet and Yammer Groups.
  • Assist in presenting network disaster initiatives to internal constituents and at Network conferences.
  • Coordinate Disaster Training Program for Network (ICS Training, develop EOC Liaison Training etc.).
  • Establish and coordinate a cross-functional team and process for evaluating partnership opportunities with leading national non-profit and faith-based organizations.
  • Work with Outcomes Framework Implementation Working Group to prioritize national partnerships in support of key feed, nourish, empower and connect outcomes, as identified the 2025 Strategic Direction.
  • Represent Feeding America w/national partner organizations including National VOAD, NEMA, IAEM, National Mass Care Council.
  • Represent Feeding America with federal partners FEMA, FNS, HHS.
  • Lead development and maintenance of MOU/SOU/SOP with external partners (FEMA, Red Cross, Salvation Army etc.).
  • Provide disaster case studies and situation reports to external partners and relationship managers.
  • Work with FEMA to develop and implement Food Bank Assessment Team Concept.
  • Manage data sharing with Red Cross RC View and other GIS-based situational awareness platforms.
  • Develop and provide training/presentations to external partners regarding food bank capabilities.
  • Represent Network at key emergency management meetings and conferences (EMLC, NHC).
  • Work with MarCom, Communications and Corporate Partnerships to develop content for marketing Feeding America Disaster Services to external audiences and donors and proposal development for grants.
  • Lead coordination of FANO Core Disaster team to ensure timely engagement across the organization of food, funds, volunteers and other needed resources to responding food banks.
  • Facilitate loaned staffing requests between supporting and responding food banks.
  • Possible deployment to State EOC or FEMA NRCC as Feeding America Liaison.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS or relevant experience. MBA preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5 plus years’ work in disaster response.

Required Technical Competence and Experience

  • Ability to analyze data and derive business insights.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Up to 40% travel required.
