The Alzheimer's Association National office seeks a Director of Strategic Donor Engagement, responsible for implementing a comprehensive donor engagement, stewardship, communication plan for major, foundation and planned giving donors. Position also works with the Association's Board of Directors on their personal philanthropy plans.

The Director will report to the Senior Director of Relationship Development and work closely with the Senior Director of Major Gifts, Director of Foundations, and Director of Planned Giving as well as other staff to appropriately and consistently promote communication with and recognition of the Association's highest level donors.

This position will be based in Chicago, IL and manage the activities of the Stewardship and Donor Communication teams - including two direct reports as well as two additional FTEs and two additional PTEs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Direct a pro-active program for donor stewardship, relations and communications
  • Provide strategic direction for donor stewardship events as well as giving societies - including Zenith Society, Aspire Society, Founders Society and others as deemed appropriate
  • Manage and oversee philanthropy plan engagement with the Association's Board of Directors 
  • Provide strategic oversight on all donor communications and recognition materials - gift proposals, stewardship reports, brochures, newsletters, online content, etc.
  • Oversee development and strategy for Aspire Magazine, our bi-annual philanthropic publication
  • Collaborate and coordinate with colleagues, the Medical & Scientific, Programs, Advocacy Departments on all donor communication, giving opportunities and stewardship efforts 
  • Manage and track for all Association major, foundation, and planned giving and recognition opportunities
  • Manage acknowledgements, pledge agreements, and stewardship reporting for major, planned, and foundation giving
  • Ensure the external reporting to donors on the impact of their giving
  • Manage research priority funding areas and reporting, including oversight of grant sponsorships
  • Work collaboratively with major gift officers on all donor stewardship and communication activities
  • Develop metrics and systems to monitor outcomes of each area of donor communication and stewardship programming
Educational Background: 
BA degree, Advanced degree a plus
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7-10 years of related nonprofit fundraising operations experience 
  • Proven success in developing donor engagement, communication and recognition plans 
  • Demonstrated leadership in the donor engagement and recognition process
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and carry out activities independently to meet specific timelines and goals
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Keen understanding of working in a federated, non-profit structure
  • Experience managing staff in a nonprofit setting
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends, and travel as needed by air and/or road.
