Director, Field Relationship Events

The Director, Field Relationship Events will assist chapters with execution against the relationship event strategy.  S/he will support goal achievement through the effective coaching of diverse chapter staff, and the engagement and mobilization of volunteers. Additionally, this position will work closely with Major Gift staff to identify and cultivate donors for sustainable needs fundraising.

This position reports to the Sr. Director, Relationship Events and can be based in any major city in the continental US.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work within and across chapters to support event program standards, achieving high recruiting levels, volunteer leader and laureate member retention rates, and delivering against the enterprise strategy by meeting/exceeding recruiting and revenue goals.
  • Accountable for the achievement of income performance targets for relationship events such as galas, and other high-level social events.
  • Develop, oversee and provide input on strategic and annual business planning for relationship events, including goal setting, forecasting and projections, budgeting, event logistics, volunteer committees, communications, and evaluation.
  • Leverage volunteers as door openers and relationship builders.
  • Partner with enterprise support functions and ensure appropriate support is provided for successful execution of community events, including planning and continuous performance feedback.
  • Identify and execute strategies and new best practices that result in growth of event revenue in alignment with income plans; drive and encourage innovation.
  • Collaborate with Major Gift and Corporate staff on the cultivation of existing donor relationships with individuals of high net worth.
  • Influence, coach, develop, and provide training to chapter colleagues who manage relationship events.
  • Support the Senior Director, Relationship Events to ensure mission, top line, and bottom line goals are reached as well, as compliance with enterprise policies.
  • Execute annual budgeting and forecasting activity. Ensure compliance with Association policies, including employment, risk management, event and cash handling, and financial controls.
  • Ensure stewardship of volunteer and donor leadership award programs.
  • Actively demonstrate and cascade the enterprise-wide mindsets: integrity, collaboration and stewardship.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • at least 7 - 10 years progressive experience with coordination and execution of large-scale distinguished events, staff and volunteer management for fundraising and mission outcomes for a multi-million dollar organization.
  • Professional presence and refined ability to interact effectively with high-level corporate executive/distinguished volunteer leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage and motivate diverse groups and individuals, and work successfully in a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze and integrate information from relevant sources and make appropriate decisions.
  • Able to cultivate relationships with targeted systems/organizations, including mobilization of a diverse population of community volunteers and corporate executive/distinguished volunteer leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities, project management and meeting deadlines; strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Able to remain composed under stress, handle responses to criticism tactfully and take responsibility for delivering on organizational commitments.
  • Rapidly develop broad knowledge of the overall structure, programs, and services of the Alzheimer's Association, including policies and procedures.
  • Partner with enterprise support functions and ensure appropriate support is provided for successful execution of events, including planning and continuous performance feedback.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with extensive experience in effectively addressing and resolving issues with constituents and high level volunteers.
  • Ability to communicate with staff and volunteers, as needed, to negotiate issues as they manifest, to ensure the integrity of Association events.
  • Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a focused and timely manner; proactively address issues as they arise.
  • Ability to analyze and integrate information from relevant sources and make appropriate decisions.
  • Proficient in computer-based information systems.
  • This position requires some evening and weekend work.
  • Travel requirement is approximately 60%. Must possess valid driver's license, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance.
