Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director, the Youth Development Director will be directly responsible for administration and program management of Summer Day Camp, After School Care, holiday camp, Stay and Play, Interactive Zone, Youth Sports and Family and Teen programs. Provide visionary leadership in the development of new programs and in accordance with the Association Gold Book, maintain high standards of quality in all programs.
- Plans, develops and implements Summer Day Camp, Holiday Camp and After School programs
- Plans, develops and implements Teen Programs, Family Programs, Birthday Party Rentals, Youth Sports, Stay and Play and Interactive Zone areas
- Provide strong leadership and support for attaining association’s goals and objectives.
- Provide strong fiscal management in all areas of responsibility
- Manages and provide leadership to existing and potential new youth programs
- Manages payroll and schedules of staff with in the program area
- Monitors the achievements of established program objectives and exercises appropriate action to assure the achievements of the objectives are the highest quality programs and services
- Monitors the budget and exercises necessary controls to assure operations are carried out in a balanced fiscal position. Includes collection of program fees
- Responsible for purchase, inventory and delivery of all program related supplies
- Responsible for program promotion and increasing enrollment numbers in above mentioned programs. Includes distribution of marketing materials
- Maintains administrative paperwork of participant files, staff lesson plans, program evaluations and visit feedback
- Regularly conducts both formal and informal program evaluations by capturing parent and child feedback
- Responds to all parent, agency and community inquiries within 24 hours of receiving
- Completes all new employee trainings assigned including New Staff Orientation, Blood borne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention
- Responsible for being Family Center expert on state requirements for youth programs; site is in compliance with state and local regulations
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with school officials: principals, custodial staff, support staff and key partners to gain support for above programs
- Ensures the YMCA of South Hampton Roads quality program guidelines are adhered to as outlined in the Gold Book
- Participates in association Cabinet meetings and trainings
- Participates in Family Center staff, program and department meetings
- Recruits, Trains, Supervises, and Evaluates all staff and volunteers in related programs. Conduct all appropriate staff trainings and meetings
- Meets all agreed upon deadlines both in family center and association
- Ensures safety, cleanliness and function of all related facilities and equipment
- Ensure all program operations are consistent with association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, accounting and other administrative systems
- Maintains confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Is a good role model by promoting healthy living and exceeding dress code at all times
- Incorporates character development within the activities of each program
- Maintains healthy and continual communication with supervisor
- Monitors facility by serving as Director on Duty during nights and weekends as assigned.
- Assists in the leadership of family center special events. Lead Healthy Kids’ Day
- Participates in successful Annual Support Campaign. Active leadership required in staff giving and community gifts division
- Communicates the YMCA mission and objectives to the community
- Responsible for all staff coverage related to areas of responsibility: Any areas not covered must be covered by the Youth Development Director
- Every effort is made to program according to the wants, needs and interests of the Family.
- Creates opportunities for members/participants to form small communities and meaningful relationships
- 10 foot rule - Acknowledges everyone who comes within 10 feet of you
- All other job duties assigned by Executive Director
- Minimum two years programmatic experience as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs
- Strong human relation and communication skills to facilitate positive relationships with participants, members and staff
- Current CPR/First-Aid/Oxygen Administration and Medication Administration certifications, or able to obtain within 30 days of hire
- CDL (commercial drivers’ license) must be able to attain within 6 months of hire
- YMCA Team Leadership Certification preferred
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Basic knowledge of computers and ability to learn new software programs
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift and pull 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, run and climb unassisted.
- Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications
- Must be able to perform the duties of direct reports
