This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Director of Major Gifts works closely with the CEO and Campaign Committee of the Board of Directors to carry out a development plan targeting individuals, corporations, foundations, associations and government agencies in support of these initiatives. A successful candidate will manage a $5,000,000 capital campaign for the Brooks Family YMCA as well as work closely with Branch Director leadership to oversee a $150,000 annual campaign. He/she will develop a major gifts strategy and submit grant proposals to public and private sources to achieve the Y’s philanthropic efforts. He/she will work to build community understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact through the development and implementation of effective communication strategies.
- Develops, implements and manages the development plan for the YMCA in collaboration with the CEO and volunteer leadership.
- Monitors the achievement of development plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.
- Prepares and manages development budget.
- Conducts research on donors, foundations and grant opportunities. Works with CEO and volunteers to strategize approach and manage deadlines.
- Prepares and provides support to the CEO, Board members and volunteers for one-to-one solicitations. Participates in solicitations where appropriate.
- Manages and maintains the fundraising database.
- Ensures data related to prospects and donors is recorded and tracked in electronic and hard copy files, manages campaign recordkeeping, evaluates progress towards goals.
- Ensures donor acknowledgement, stewardship and public recognition, as appropriate. Organizes cultivation and recognition events.
- Prepares monthly reports on fundraising efforts and results; presents to the CEO, Campaign Committee and Board.
- Recommends revisions to the development plan as needed to meet financials goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of fundraising best practices with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated personal success in donor cultivation, major gifts development, successful grant proposal writing, and meeting fundraising goals.
- Organized strategic thinking with management skills, initiative, and adaptability.
- Familiarity with the principals of campaign organization and communications.
- Experience in working closely with high net worth individuals, foundation leadership and senior-level executives, and volunteers.
- Ability to effectively present information and develop genuine relationships with a variety of constituents, including major donors and volunteers.
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA and ability to effectively articulate the importance and impact of its work.
Salary: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00
