The Grant Accountant is expected to support the Grant Manager of B4MCN project in ensuring the overall financial management and compliance to donor and WV regulations in terms of the project’s financial planning, spending, bookkeeping, documentation, and audits.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Ensure preparation of financial source documents, review for authenticity, source accuracy, updatedness, completeness and maintain robust filing system
- Implement designed internal controls at the project, monitor its effectiveness on daily basis as per WV policies and donor requirements
- Prepare and consolidate project annual budgets and cash flows in line with partnership guidelines, standards and policies and donor requirements
- Prepare and submit periodic project financial reports, analyse and share with stakeholders
- Conduct capacity building on financial matters to partners
- Regularly check project expenditures against budgets and alert the Grant Manager of any potential over or under spending
- Ensure donor’s procurement guidelines are followed, and ensure timely processing of vendors’ invoices/payments.
- Prepare, maintain and submit assets reconciliation reports, asset registers and ensure periodic assets physical verification
- Prepare and submit periodic project funding request as per approved budgets
- Ensure timely planning and support during project audits, and implement project audit recommendations
Educational Background:
Degree in Accounting or related field
Skills/Experience:
- Experience: 2 years working experience as a Senior Accountant for a grant funded project
- Preferred: 5 years working experience as an accountant in an INGO; work experience in bilateral funded project - Essential
- Oral and written communication skills in English, Kirundi and French - Essential
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Excellent computer skills in Excel, Word & Sun-systems software
- Demonstrated ability in supervision
- Good planning and organizational skills
- Customer service approach in using tact and diplomacy in dealing with staff-related to work environment needs
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels
- Understanding of integrated community development approaches, issues and development trends
Work Environment:
- Complete Travel and/or Work Environment statements if applicable.
- Travel: 15% Domestic travel is required.
- On call: 10%
- Position will work directly with project staff and implementing partners
- Huge work load may requires work beyond regular office time
- Child friendly working environment exits in the project team
