The role of the Policy and Advocacy Trainee is to contribute to the efforts of the WV EUREP advocacy team towards a stronger political investment in children’s rights by the EU. The main focus of the role is to support advocacy and event organisation in support of our 2020 strategic plan in the areas of child rights and ending violence against children, fragility and humanitarian affairs, sustainable development, and faith and development.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Contribute to policy research and analysis on the issues of interest to the Policy and Advocacy team.
  • Monitor developments of European external policies and international policy regarding children’s rights and other topics of relevance to the policy and advocacy team.
  • Support the day-to-day work of the advocacy team, including the organisation of events (high-level panels, workshops, launch events, hearings, etc.), database management.
  • Participate in network or stakeholder meetings regarding policy priorities of the Policy and Advocacy team either individually or accompanied by the Officer(s) in charge and draft minutes and report back to the team.
  • Liaise and maintain regular contact with World Vision colleagues in WV Global Capitals (New York, Geneva, Addis Ababa), relevant sector leads, European support offices and Field Offices, as required.
  • Support the DEAR Project and Communications Officer with the creation of EU-relevant (social) media products.
  • Any other activities contributing to the achievement of EUREP Policy and Advocacy Strategic Planning for EU impact and influencing.
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree or equivalent experience in European politics, International Relations, Development, Peace and Security or a related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the European Union and its external policies.
  • Previous experience in or with EU advocacy is an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with a proven ability to craft clear, targeted and resonant messages.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Written and oral fluency in English, other EU languages are an asset.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good team spirit and willingness to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Citizenship of an EU member state or a valid residence and work permit for Belgium is a must.
