IMPACCT Brooklyn seeks a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to join our Social Service Supportive Housing program to provide direction and support for our clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, conducting, evaluating, and facilitating departmental programs. This includes performing assessment, evaluation, intervention, referral and alcoholism and/or substance use counseling in both individual and group settings. Must possesses excellent customer service skills and be able to develop internal and external resources and customer relationships. This position reports to the Director of Social Services.
- Develop, facilitate and maintain substance abuse program
- Provide harm reduction educational training and ensure the quality of care for each of our clients.
- Provide individual and group substance abuse counseling, 12-step groups, peer support groups, relapse prevention and recovery support programs.
- Develop and maintain community partnerships with treatment centers, detox and rehabilitation programs
- Provide substance abuse case conferencing, training and consultation to all members of the social service team
- Work as a member of the social service team in the development of recreational, socialization, educational and skill building activities with a view towards client inclusion and integration
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Provide annual strategic substance abuse program work plan and keep current and accurate HMIS database system records
- Develop, with client, and Case Manager individual treatment plans
- Provide annual substance abuse assessments
- Provide crisis intervention as needed
- Documentation of all services in compliance with NYS and agency standards
- Maintain a strong working relationship with the social service staff to ensure quality of care, due diligence and best practice.
- Participate in interdisciplinary case conferencing
- Assist, refer, encourage and accompany clients with accessing, enrolling, participating and completing needed substance abuse community services
- Participate in job development trainings
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Social Services
- Must have an active CASAC License for the state of New York and experience and familiarity with various substance abuse and clinical treatment modalities and resources
- Experience working with individuals with HIV/AIDS, mental health, and substance abuse
- 2+ years related experience in the development and facilitation of substance abuse and harm reduction training, education and individual and group work
- Residential setting experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Solid individual, group counseling and communication and writing skills a must
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Fluency in the English language is required, Spanish speaking ability preferred.
