The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization. Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. Based in Washington, DC with offices throughout the country, ACS CAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national priority.

Develop new strategies designed to identify and cultivate new corporate relationships for ACS CAN in the North East.    Establishes and maintains relationships with key strategic partners.  Support and empower ACS CAN and ACS staff in soliciting corporate partnerships.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Pursue new opportunities, manage and cultivate relationships and drive involvement with companies to achieve ACS CAN’s mission and income targets.
  • Solicit donors for, and execute the logistics of,  the ACS CAN Research Breakfast in New England. Serve as primary ACS CAN relationship manager with prospects and new partners.
  • Build relationships with ACS and ACS CAN staff to identify prospects that have potential to partner with, and contribute to, ACS CAN.  
  • Individual will work with ACS staff to increase their knowledge and awareness of ACS CAN’s advocacy efforts, so that ACS staff can independently identify potential synergies between companies and ACS CAN.
  • Work with members of the ACS CAN Federal, State, Field, and Policy teams to develop opportunities for further corporate engagement and funding opportunities by monitoring emerging policy issues to determine where synergy might exist.
  • Collaborate with the ACS National Corporate Relations and Alliances Team to ensure alignment  with their donor outreach efforts.
  • Train and mentor staff (both ACS CAN and ACS) in effective strategies to solicit donors.
  • Supports Sr. Vice President, Alliance Development & Philanthropy and Vice President, Strategic Partnerships to ensure mission, top line, and bottom line goals are reached as well as compliance with enterprise policies.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising preferably in the North East with strong experience in soliciting corporate donors
  • General knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques at a large organization
  • General knowledge of health policy and oncology is desirable but not required

SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR KNOWLEDGE:

  • Non-profit fundraising with an emphasis on soliciting corporate donors. High-end event management desirable.

SPECIAL MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to travel (by car and/or airplane) when necessary.  
  • Position will entail moderate travel.
