This position is primarily responsible for championing and providing direct program delivery of group exercise, wellness support, and personal training. Additionally, the position is involved in coordinating the additional staff that will engage with members on the wellness floor, group exercise, through related activities, programs and events.
The Healthy Living Associate works closely with the Health & Wellness Director to ensure prompt customer service and strong member engagement are carried out with consistency. The Healthy Living Associate will report to the Health and Wellness Director. This position includes modeling professional behaviors, managing the Health & Wellness schedule, managing equipment maintenance, direct member service including training Y clients, leading group training sessions and Wellness Support shift coverage. Requires high energy, motivation and enthusiasm. This position requires experience in teaching group exercise classes and personal training.
- Programs are in place and operating at the highest quality level for the various service area target markets.
- Direct Program delivery of Personal Training, Group exercise, chronic disease programs and/or any other related healthy living programs.
- Ensures all equipment is in working order. Responsible for reporting non-functioning equipment for repair and ensuring service date follow up within 24 hours.
- Creates Health & Wellness (Group Exercise) schedule and manages coverage for all shifts
- Direct and influence staff on best practices and protocols.
- Responsible for assisting Health and Wellness Director with driving Personal training revenue in order to exceed branch year end goal.
- Assist Health and Wellness Director in ensuring Wellness Support Staff have available Get Started appointment logs, member workout templates, incident reports and related paperwork.
- Creates and manages Small Group Training and Large Group Training Programs.
- Assists with special events planning and delivery, including but not limited to Road Race, Healthy Kids Day, and other Health & Wellness events.
- Attends and participates in YMCA of Greater Boston trainings.
- Participates in health and wellness staff meetings.
- Assists in branch fundraising efforts as requested.
- Presents a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals.
- Remains current in required and voluntary training in order to promote growth of mind and spirit and character values for all.
- Understand the relationship of the general public to the association, of staff to volunteer, and of staff to staff, and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
- Ability to interpret, carry out and implement into programs, the mission and goals of the YMCA.
- Ability to supervise staff and volunteers while actively handling a variety of functions at the same time.
- Work as an integral member of a staff team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults, youth, teens, seniors and special populations.
- Computer literate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Ability to be flexible to work midday, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- At least two years’ experience in instructing related programs.
- Experience in personal training, and health and wellness programming.
- Background in internal marketing/special events.
- Group Exercise Certification
- Personal Trainer Certification (ACSM, ACE, NASM, other accredited certification)
- CPR/AED and First Aid certifications
