To contribute to the increase in agriculture production and enhance food security through effective forestry and land resources management, which will ensure optimal production land to meet and address the needs for the vulnerable farming families and communities at large. The position also aims at contributing towards poverty alleviation by targeting resource poor small holder farmers for agriculture production.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Support the establishment and capacity building of Project stakeholders. These, among others, include VNRMCs, Local Forestry Management Boards, Forest Based Enterprises Groups, etc.(10%)
- Mobilize communities on issues of best forestry and/or land husbandry practices (15%)
- Facilitate empowerment of the existing community NRM structures and/or revamp or establish community based NRM structures. (10%)
- Facilitate implementation and review of NRM, and FBE initiatives and innovations including supporting farmers in beekeeping and development of product grades and standards. (15%)
- Facilitate farmer training in construction of swales, contour ridges and gully reclamation and in forestry management as stipulated in the Project document (15%)
- Champion collaboration between the Organization and all Forestry and/or Land Resource stakeholders at district level. (10%)
- Provide regular reporting to the Project Coordinator - as per guidelines including preparation of Project reports. (15%)
- Monitor activity implementation and budget movement (expenditures) against work plan and monitor and report progress against Project indicators. (10%)
Educational Background:
University degree in relevant field (NRM/Environmental Science/Agriculture/Community Development/Forestry or any relevant comparable field)
Skills/Experience:
- Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
- Attend and participate in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services
- Perform other related duties as required.
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in fields related to forestry and/or land resource and/or agriculture.
- Experience and knowledge of working in the Malawian forestry and/or land resource sub-sector;
- English language written and verbal fluency essential.
- Field-based experience at the farmer level and working with farmer groups and NGOs/ Associations;
- Experience in working with Government extension workers and VDCs, and ADCs
- Knowledge of Malawian environmental and agriculture legislation and issues preferred;
- Maintain positive work relationships in a respectful and collaborative manner
- Maintain good communication with others ensuring others have necessary information.

- Have practical experience in relevant technical fields (NRM, Forest Management, beekeeping, land husbandry, etc.)
- Developed facilitation skills, including ability to organize and facilitate community trainings; ability to deliver compelling presentations for adult learning
- Proven ability to build effective networks and coordination with field partners from multiple technical sectors
- Excellent command of written English with experience in donor reporting
