Working under the co-direction of the Director of Clinical Trial Affairs and the Community Engagement Sr. Manager, this position supports the strategic development and execution of CFF’s community focused research and engagement activities. This individual will be responsible for organizing and leading a variety of community-based initiatives, trainings, and engagement activities, including managing interactions with researchers, clinicians, patients and families.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop resources and strategies for sponsors, investigators, and CF Foundation staff to effectively maximize the value of community member engagement in the research process
- Serve as primary liaison between sponsors, investigators, and CF Foundation staff for community engagement activities including consulting on the creation of comprehensive community engagement plans
- Advise internal and external teams on strategies to collect, generate, and translate data/information about patients from primary and secondary sources into relevant, meaningful insights.
- Develop and disseminate resources such as best practices, case studies, and guidelines for successful engagement of community members in research projects
- Evaluate and communicate the impact of community input on the CF research enterprise, including working with staff in the Communications department.
- Work regularly with the various clinical research teams supported by industry and the CFF to incorporate the community voice into their research programs, such as the Therapeutic Development Network, Clinical Research Awards program (including CRA+), Women’s Health Research Group, Nontuberculous Mycobacterium Consortium and Success With Therapies Research Consortium.
- Lead efforts to engage people with CF and families in clinical research, including CFF and sponsor initiated activities:
- Manage the recruitment and assist in the inclusion of community members in committees, work-groups, and advisory roles related to research
- Manage focus groups gathering feedback on a variety of topics related to research from recruitment, execution and dissemination of findings
- Plan and manage logistics for multiple stakeholder meetings, including but not limited to meeting minutes, action plans and agendas
- Advise and or develop surveys to support specific community focus research activities.
- Engage relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure content engages the CF community and effectively communicates messages about research
- Manage major initiatives for community engagement in high priority research areas to equip Foundation for success (i.e. Path to a Cure and addressing the manifestations of CF in the era of highly effective modulator therapy)
- Equip people with CF and their family members to effectively engage in research related projects
- Develop trainings for community members to help them be successful in their participation on research projects
- Assist in the development of educational content for community members including but not limited to ResearchCon and webinars on research
- Enhance the engagement of people with CF and their family members in research, including developing and implementing community engagement strategies for the Community Voice and Research Voice programs
- Continually listens to people with CF and families, clinicians and researchers to identify gaps in content and needs for new or improved resources
- Other duties required by supervisors
- Represent CFF and present at meetings and conferences
- Write articles as needed
- Remit and processes invoices and honorariums
Educational Background:
Master’s degree preferred in the biological sciences or related discipline in the natural sciences/health care, preferably with a background in clinical research and/or community-based research
Skills/Experience:
- 4 years relevant experience with clinical research, community engagement or qualitative research
- Ability to confidently interact and establish rapport with all organizational and technical levels
- Good understanding of qualitative and quantitative analyses applicable to patient insights
- Knowledge of clinical trial framework and regulations and other patient-centered compliance issues preferred
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
- Well-organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate across teams and maintain a professional, positive, team-oriented approach
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with design programs such as adobe InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop preferred
- Ability to multitask under tight deadlines on several projects with specific and unique requirements
- Ability to be flexible, adapt to change, work independently, as well as work as part of a team in a matrix environment
