The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is seeking an energetic and personable part-time intern to assist the Volunteer Leadership and Development department with fundraising and administrative activities to help raise funds in support of the Foundation’s mission. By working with various departments, this individual will primarily assist with donor relations, event logistics, and database maintenance. The Development Intern reports to the Donor Relations Specialist, and will be an essential role within the entire team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the coordination of key events, conferences, webinars, and meetings
  • Handle national and one-on-one communications with donors via hardcopy mail and email
  • Track responses from mailings, event invites, external surveys, etc.
  • Maintain the donor database, including creating and updating records and performing data integrity checks
  • Run database reports for various functions of the department
  • Other assistance as necessary for special projects

Qualifications:

  • Professional and responsible demeanor
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Interest in learning the details of non-profit fundraising
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Database experience is a plus

Outcomes:

  • Gain an excellent overview of various forms of fundraising at the national level
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the functioning of a large non-profit through first-hand interactions and collaboration with members of various departments
  • Observe how a Development department uses varied income streams to meet a multi-million-dollar budget, including major gifts, planned gifts, annual fund, direct mail, and events.
  • Understand how fundraising finances the work of a large medical research organization
  • Learn how issues in medical research are messaged to various levels of donors
