The Health and Wellness Director is responsible for member satisfaction and retention through Health and Wellness practices that promote member engagement. This position will involve early morning, evening, weekend, and on call responsibilities.
Areas of Responsibility:
Human Resources Management
- Responsible for the cultivation of staff with knowledge, skills and abilities to support the health seeker
- Supervise full-time and part-time wellness employees (including wellness staff, massage therapists, group exercise and water exercise instructors)
- Review, approve, and submit payroll
Program Development
- Responsible for development and implementation of innovative group exercise and wellness programs
- Ensure that staff personal training national certifications are up to date.
- Develop and deliver health education and therapeutic programs
- Provides and directs fitness testing, exercise program design, and teaching appropriate fitness programs to members of varying ages and fitness levels
- Interprets assessment results to clients and, based on evaluation and client's goals, designs and implements a fitness program.
- Designs and develops outcomes based programs and interventions, collects necessary data to ensure program/participant success; establishes a measurable evaluation process; delivers personalized health coaching services and other programs to participants as applicable.
- Tracks program data for measurement of individual and program goal achievement, outcomes and results.
Membership Development and Retention
- Delivers outstanding experiences for members, participants, and others
- Interviews and tours prospective members
- Sells YMCA memberships
- Receives member feedback and resolves members concerns and complaints
- Works closely with the Membership Department to develop and implement member retention and engagement plans.
Fiscal Management
- Responsible for all aspects of budget management
- appropriate margin/bottom line
- Prepares cost analysis on existing and new programs
- Assists with annual campaign and special events
Facility Management
- Enforces facility rules and procedures
- Maintains current standards of training equipment and procedures
- Communicates safety standards
Skills/Experience:
KNOW HOW
- Exercise Science related field from a four-year college or university preferred; three to five years related experience in Exercise Science or related Health and Wellness field; three to five years experience Personal Training and/or Program development; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory experience required. Desire to work hands on with members. Ability to interact with people from all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications or ability to learn propriety software to enter or edit member information. YMCA or Not for Profit Management experience preferred.

TRAVEL
- 5-10% of local travel within the state of Michigan, occasional out of state travel may be required for educational conferences or training.
CERTIFICATIONS
- Nationally recognized accredited personal training certification (ACSM, NASM, CSCS) required
- Current CPR, AED
- Blood borne pathogens training required upon hire
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $35,000.00 - $43,000.00
