Reporting to the Operations Director of Habitat Bay-Waveland Area, the Construction and Volunteer Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of HFHBW’s critical home repair and new home construction, along with managing the volunteers on the work site. The primary responsibility for this position is to select, prepare for, and execute processes related to completing critical home repair projects and two new home builds per year. Secondary responsibilities include facility and equipment management and miscellaneous construction related activities. We are looking for someone who is ready to a positive representative and advocate for Habitat in our service area. This is a full-time position that includes full benefits. Salary is negotiable based on experience. Relocation costs may be covered.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work with other staff members to review potential projects and assist in project selection.
  • Create work scopes, material lists, and budgets.
  • Instruct, lead, and manage volunteers and partner families onsite in various construction and repair tasks during work days. This includes advance preparation, organization, communication, and follow-up.
  • Oversee job site safety to assure we adhere to best practices of safe construction.
  • Manage Habitat facilities, equipment maintenance, and other minor construction related issues that may arise.
  • Stay on top of best practices for outstanding Habitat affiliates in the areas of construction, home repair, volunteer management, and other innovations.
  • Ensure that our volunteers have a great experience. This includes training, people development, and patience.
  • Be an outstanding representative of our mission and organization, at all times and in every way.
  • Work with Habitat staff to ensure an orderly and efficient process for completing projects.
  • Ensure quality construction and Habitat’s commitment to building energy-efficient, healthy homes and stay current on trends in green and fortified building.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and serve as a vital and contributing member of the affiliate leadership team.
  • Build relationships with vendors, community partners, skilled trades, and others in order to ensure our affiliate is in the best position to advance our mission.
  • Other responsibilities, as needed and agreed upon, in consultation with Operations Director.
Educational Background: 
An applicant for this position should have experience in construction or equivalent education in Construction Management or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • He/she should be a person of integrity and strong character, have good communication skills (written and verbal), be capable of working well with people, adaptable, be willing to learn Habitat programs, and committed to our mission.
  • A licensed contractor is preferred, or the willingness to get licensed.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time, to lift tools and carry at least 50 lbs., to climb and work from ladders, frame scaffolding, and heights of up to 2 stories, and to work effectively in varying weather conditions such as high heat, humidity, and heavy rain.
